About the role
We are seeking a Regulatory Liaison and Compliance Coordinator to join the Safety, Quality, Risk & Environment (SQRE) team at Metro Trains Sydney.
Working directly with the General Manager and Head of SQRE, this role is a key coordination and assurance position, acting as the central point of contact between external regulators and internal business stakeholders to ensure regulatory commitments are clearly understood, effectively tracked, and appropriately closed.
The role plays a critical part in supporting audits, inspections, and regulatory interactions, and in maintaining the ongoing effectiveness and compliance of the Safety Management System (SMS).
Key Responsibilities For The Role Include
Regulatory liaison and coordination
- Act as the point of contact for regulatory correspondence, including audits, inspections, incident investigations and enquiries
- Coordinate and manage regulator communications, ensuring responses are accurate, consistent, approved internally, and submitted within agreed timeframes.
- Interpret regulatory requests and scopes, identify accountable business owners, and coordinate inputs and supporting evidence.
- Draft regulatory responses, extension requests and closure statements where required, maintaining a strong audit trail of commitments and outcomes.
Audits, inspections and evidence management
- Support the planning and coordination of regulatory audits and inspections, including establishing evidence repositories, agendas, draft presentations and internal preparation sessions.
- Act as a central coordination point for gathering, reviewing and submitting evidence across multiple business units.
- Use Intelex, our internal Incident Management System, to review and triage incidents, track and monitor audit findings, corrective actions and regulatory commitments through to closure.
Safety Management System (SMS) support
- Coordinate reviews and updates to SMS documentation in response to regulatory findings, internal reviews and continuous improvement activities.
- Support the ongoing implementation and uplift of the Safety Management System, including coordination across SMS elements and downstream documents.
- Contribute to SMS communication, training and engagement activities as required.
Stakeholder engagement
- Work closely with operational, engineering and corporate teams to support regulatory and compliance outcomes.
- Provide trusted coordination and assurance support to SQRE leadership and senior stakeholders.
- Support regulatory meetings and forums through preparation of papers, presentations, minutes an d action tracking.
About You Desired Skills and Experience To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Bring
- Strong administration, coordination and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across multiple business units.
- The ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into clear actions and deliverables.
- Excellent written communication skills, including experience drafting formal correspondence.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams concurrently.
- Confidence navigating and working within organisational systems, such as incident or action management systems, to review, track and support compliance and assurance activities.
- Experience supporting regulatory compliance, audits, inspections or assurance activities in a complex or regulated environment.
Previous experience in rail, transport, infrastructure or safety management systems is highly regarded but not essential.
