The Role
Advanced and Sensitive Capabilities Branch (ASCB), the Defence central office for Special Access Programs (SAP) provides a unique prospect for a rewarding career in a fast paced environment. As a team member of the SAP Assurance Directorate role includes:
- Guide organisations by providing assistance on SAP Facility security requirements.
- Plan and conduct SAP assurance inspections, develop reports and recommendations.
- Provide security advice to stakeholders to support the implementation of security policy, practices and procedures fostering a risk aware positive security culture
- Undertake relevant training to be appointed as Government SAP Security Officer (GSSO).
- Provide GSSO support to ASCB to ensure continuing SAP Facility compliance for the ASCB SAP Facility and Common User Facility.
Role is Canberra based and remote work is not available.
About our Team
The Advanced and Sensitive Assurance Branch (ASCB) within Capability Coordination Division is responsible for national oversight governance and assurance of Special Access Programs for the Department of Defence.
As a part of the SAP Assurance Directorate you will work in a joint environment that is outcomes focused and provides technically complex and challenging opportunities. The SAP Assurance Directorate is responsible for SAP facility governance, accreditation, and ongoing compliance, as well as the assessment and authorisation of SAP information systems.

Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate would have experience and displayed ability in:
- Protective security.
- Working in high security areas and in classified security compartments.
- The ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- The ability to work collaboratively, independently and with minimal supervision.
- Proven experience in leading complex tasks with tight deadlines.
- Ability to use initiative.
- Evidence of working flexibly and autonomously with little supervision.
- Accurate completion of work within time frames.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to apply critical thinking and risk-consideration to decision-making processes, and the judgement to escalate where required.
- Using influence to drive outcomes.
- The motivation to learn and continually professionally develop, through mentoring, engagements, training courses, and through self-learning through own research.
Eligibility
Security Clearance:
Positive Vetting: Prior to commencement, successful applicants will be required to undergo a psychological assessment and an extensive security clearance process. As a Positive Vetting clearance is required, applicants must be Australian Citizens; be able to account for their personal background for their whole life; and be able to demonstrate suitability to work in a high security intelligence environment.
