Finance Manager

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Finance Manager to join a purpose driven education organisation delivering secondary education across remote communities in northern WA.
Working closely with the Business Manager and senior leadership team, this is a broad, hands-on role responsible for the end-to-end financial management of the organisation, alongside key operational and regulatory compliance responsibilities.
This role would suit an experienced Finance Manager who enjoys combining strong financial management with operational involvement and wants their work to contribute to an organisation making a meaningful difference in education and community.
The Opportunity
Our client operates two school sites within the Kimberley and is focused on delivering culturally responsive education that combines academic learning, personal and social development, Indigenous identity and culture, and pathways to employment.
The organisation is entering an important period of consolidation and sustainable growth, creating an opportunity for an experienced finance professional to play an integral role in strengthening financial systems, compliance and operational processes.
Reporting to the Business Manager, you will oversee financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, accounts payable, taxation and compliance, while working collaboratively with school and organisational leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end accounting function, including general ledger, month end reporting, reconciliations and annual financial statements
- Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and variance analysis
- Manage State and Federal Government financial reporting, funding acquittals and compliance requirements
- Ensure compliance with GST, PAYG, FBT, BAS, superannuation, DGR and other statutory obligations
- Oversee accounts payable, supplier management, expense processing and corporate credit card reconciliations
- Review payroll and ensure compliance with taxation, superannuation and Fair Work requirements
- Support HR administration including employee onboarding, offboarding, contracts and compliance records
- Maintain strong financial controls, policies and procedures across the organisation
- Support operational compliance including ABSTUDY, grants, insurance and WorkCover requirements
- Partner with the Business Manager and school leadership, providing financial analysis and guidance to support sound decision making
- Oversee key finance and administration systems including Xero, Employment Hero, Weel, ApprovalMax and Compass
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
- A minimum of five years accounting experience
- Previous experience within education, not for profit or a similarly regulated environment will be highly regarded
- Robust knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards
- Sound understanding of taxation, payroll and superannuation requirements
- Strong Xero and Microsoft Excel capability
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
- Strong organisational and administrative capability
- Confidence working with senior leaders and stakeholders across multiple locations
- High levels of professionalism,
discretion and confidentiality
- Strong technology skills and an interest in improving systems and processes
Importantly, you will be comfortable working within an organisation where finance is closely connected to education, community, compliance and operational outcomes.
Location and Working Arrangements
This is a Kimberley based position, working across school locations in the Fitzroy Crossing region.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working within a remote environment, travelling between school sites as required and building strong relationships with school based teams.
