Lead with excellence in patient care and clinical leadership

Western District Health Service is seeking an experienced and motivated Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) – Acute Care to join the team at Casterton Memorial Hospital.

Working in partnership with the Nurse Unit Manager, you will provide clinical leadership, operational support and high-quality patient care within our Acute Care service. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to mentor staff, contribute to service improvement initiatives, and play a key role in ensuring secure, person-centred care for our community.

In the absence of the Nurse Unit Manager, you will assume responsibility for coordinating the unit, supporting staff and ensuring the efficient delivery of clinical services.

What You'll Be Doing

Clinical Leadership & Coordination

Provide day-to-day clinical leadership and support to Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Personal Service Assistants and Health Care Workers, ensuring high standards of patient care and professional practice.

Patient-Centred Care

Deliver and coordinate evidence-based nursing care, responding effectively to changes in patient condition and ensuring consumers receive safe, compassionate and person-centred care.

Workforce Support & Mentoring

Support, coach and mentor nursing staff, fostering professional development, teamwork and a positive workplace culture.

Operational Management

Assist the Nurse Unit Manager with staffing, resource allocation, workflow coordination and operational requirements to support efficient service delivery.

Quality, Risk & Safety

Promote a culture of continuous improvement, quality care and risk management. Contribute to accreditation requirements, quality activities and initiatives that improve patient outcomes.

Collaboration & Communication

Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, patients, families,



carers and external healthcare providers to coordinate care and support positive healthcare experiences.

What You Bring

- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1)
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant specialty area, such as RIPEN, Graduate Certificate in Critical Care or equivalent
- Minimum 3-5 years post-graduate nursing experience
- Experience in a Medical Unit and/or Urgent Care Centre/Emergency Department (highly desirable)
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a healthcare setting
- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills
- Sound understanding of contemporary nursing practice, patient safety and quality standards
- Strong organisational and time management abilities
- Proficiency in clinical documentation and healthcare information systems
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice
- Current Driver's Licence
- NDIS Worker Screening Check, Police Check and Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
- Rights to work in Australia
