About the role

SA Metro Care is seeking experienced Disability Support Workers to support an NDIS participant in Morphett Vale.

The participant has a Positive Behaviour Support Plan in place, approved restrictive practices and may at times present with behaviours of concern, including self harm.

This role requires workers who are calm, confident and reliable, with excellent communication skills and the ability to respond safely, professionally and consistently during challenging situations.

We are particularly looking for workers who can build positive professional rapport, maintain explicit boundaries and provide support in a way that promotes choice, control, dignity and independence.

Female support workers are encouraged to apply due to the participant’s support preferences and personal care requirements.

Key responsibilities

- Provide person centred support in accordance with the participant’s NDIS plan, support plans, goals and preferences

- Follow the participant’s Positive Behaviour Support Plan and established behaviour support strategies

- Recognise and respond appropriately to behaviours of concern, including risks of self harm

- Use proactive strategies, de escalation techniques and clear communication to support the participant

- Implement approved restrictive practices only where authorised and in accordance with relevant plans, requirements and organisational procedures

- Maintain a calm, respectful and consistent approach during periods of heightened behaviour or distress

- Support the participant with daily living activities, personal care, household tasks and community access

- Promote independence by supporting the participant to make choices and participate in everyday activities

- Provide medication assistance in accordance with medication plans, training and organisational procedures

- Complete accurate progress notes, ABC charts, behaviour monitoring records and incident reports where required

- Escalate changes in behaviour, presentation, risk or support needs appropriately





- Participate in effective handovers and maintain consistency across the support team

- Communicate professionally with coordinators, colleagues and other relevant stakeholders

- Follow SA Metro Care policies, procedures and NDIS Practice Standards

About you

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Previous experience working in disability support

- Experience supporting people with complex behaviours or behaviours of concern

- Experience working with Positive Behaviour Support Plans

- A sound understanding of restrictive practices

- Confidence responding to incidents involving self harm, heightened behaviours or emotional distress

- Strong de escalation and interpersonal skills

- The ability to remain calm, professional and consistent under pressure

- Strong qualified boundaries and a person centred approach

- The ability to follow detailed support plans and established strategies

- Good documentation and report writing skills

- The ability to work effectively as part of an established support team

Essential requirements

- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check

- Current First Aid and CPR

- Current Australian driver’s licence

- Reliable access to a suitable vehicle

- Appropriate vehicle insurance

- Ability to meet SA Metro Care’s onboarding and compliance requirements

Highly regarded

- Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability or a related qualification

- Previous experience working in Supported Independent Living or 24 hour support environments

- Positive Behaviour Support training

- Restrictive practice training

- Experience supporting participants with self harm behaviours





- Experience with medication assistance and medication documentation

- Experience completing ABC charts and behaviour monitoring documentation

- Experience with incident reporting and risk management

Availability

Applicants should have flexibility to work across a range of shifts based on participant needs, which may include:

- Morning shifts

- Afternoon and evening shifts

- Weekend shifts

- Sleepover shifts where required

- Additional shifts when available

Reliability and consistency are particularly important for this role. We are looking for workers who are able to commit to an established roster and contribute to continuity of support.
