Hillside Project | Permanent | 2/1 Roster, 12hr Shifts

About the Role

The Superintendent Health & Safety is responsible for supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of the Health and Safety framework for the Hillside Project during construction, commissioning and transition into operations. The role supports full compliance with South Australian WHS legislation and mining requirements while embedding and promoting a robust, proactive safety culture across Rex Minerals, the EPCM and Mining contractors, and all project contractors. The role also supports the prevention through effective critical risk management and contributes to HS assurance and reporting activities for the Project Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide HS leadership, guidance and support for behaviours that drive a high safety and environmental performance culture

- Coach, mentor and support all staff in key HS matters and safety leadership

- Be a good health and safety role model who demonstrates visible, values-driven safety leadership on site

- Support and monitor full compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (SA) and Regulations

- Support engagement with HS regulators, including SafeWork SA, and assist with statutory notifications and incident reporting

- Support the implementation and maintenance of the project-specific Safety Management System, aligned with ISO 45001 and major mining/EPCM project best practice

- Support safety governance for EPCM, mining and all supporting construction and service contractors

- Facilitate the identification and development of safety related critical project risks, including mobile equipment interactions, working at heights, lifting operations,



electrical and stored energy, confined spaces, explosives and blasting, and process safety during commissioning

- Support investigations into serious incidents and high-potential events using ICAM or equivalent methodology

- Implement and support fatigue management, psychosocial risk management, fitness for work, and drug and alcohol management

- Support the site Emergency Response and Crisis Management Framework, including fire, medical, rescue and environmental incidents

Skills & Experience

Essential

- Tertiary qualification in Work Health and Safety, Engineering, or related technical discipline

- Formal ICAM Investigator (or equivalent)

- Australian driver's licence

- 8-10 years' Health and Safety experience within mining, heavy construction, or major infrastructure projects

- Demonstrated experience supporting Health and Safety management on large mining or infrastructure projects, and working within complex multi-contractor environments

- Proven experience supporting regulator engagement, major incident investigation, and critical risk management

- Experience implementing and maintaining project-scale Safety Management Systems

Highly Desirable

- ISO 45001 Lead Auditor

- Postgraduate qualification in Work Health and Safety, Risk Management or a related discipline

- Experience in copper or base-metal projects

- Experience supporting projects transitioning from construction into operations

You'll bring high integrity with the courage to challenge unsafe decisions, a strong personal safety leadership presence, and the ability to build effective working relationships across operational teams, contractors and HS regulators.
