Governance & Information Lead
Your new company
This is not your typical governance role.
If you're looking for a position where your advice genuinely influences organisational decision-making, where you'll work directly on complex governance matters, and where you'll have visibility across one of Australia's largest and fastest-growing councils, this opportunity is worth a closer look.
With ongoing development, major infrastructure investment and increasing demands around transparency, compliance and information management, governance has become a critical function across the organisation.
As Coordinator Governance & Information, you will take ownership of governance operations across Council while leading a specialist team responsible for information access, records management, governance compliance and legislative obligations. You'll be the person senior leaders turn to for advice when matters aren't straightforward and clear judgement is required.
Your new role
Reporting to the Manager Procurement & Governance, you will step into a broad and influential leadership role overseeing both governance and information management functions.
Rather than sitting purely in policy administration, you'll provide practical advice on complex governance and legislative matters, support decision-making across Council and help ensure statutory obligations are met across a diverse organisation.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading a specialist Governance and Information Management team
- Providing advice on governance, legislative compliance and information access matters
- Managing complex GIPA, privacy and access-to-information issues
- Reviewing governance frameworks,
policies and delegations
- Overseeing Council's information management and records functions
- Supporting policy reform and continuous improvement initiatives
- Working closely with senior leaders and external legal advisors on high-profile matters
- Preparing reports, recommendations and governance advice for executive stakeholders
- Supporting the ongoing review of key governance documents, registers and corporate frameworks
- Ensuring Council continues to meet its statutory obligations within a complex regulatory setting
One of the most appealing aspects of this opportunity is the variety. Some days may involve reviewing a complex information request and assessing privacy obligations. Other days might see you leading policy reform projects, advising on governance risks, reviewing council delegations or helping shape organisational responses to emerging legislative requirements.
What you'll need to succeed
We are interested in speaking with governance, legal, regulatory, policy or compliance professionals who enjoy working through complex matters and providing practical advice.
You may come from:
- Local Government
- State or Federal Government
- Regulatory or Integrity Agencies
- Universities or Public Institutions
- Legal Practice
- Statutory Authorities
- Governance, Risk or Compliance functions
You'll bring:
- Experience interpreting and applying legislation
- Strong written communication and report writing skills
- The confidence to provide advice and recommendations to stakeholders
- Experience developing or reviewing policies and governance frameworks
- Leadership capability and experience managing people
- Strong judgement and decision-making skills
- The ability to navigate grey areas and balance risk, legislation and organisational outcomes
Exposure to GIPA, Privacy, Local Government or records management legislation would be highly regarded, but the client is open-minded and willing to consider candidates with transferable governance or legal experience. They are ultimately looking for someone who can think critically, provide sound advice and build credibility with stakeholders.
What you'll get in return
- Salary from $130,579 | Approx. $11,000 annual vehicle allowance
- 35-hour working week | 9-day fortnight
- 2 days work from home | Flexible workplace culture
- 6-month contract with a strong likelihood of transitioning to a permanent appointment
- This is an excellent opportunity for a governance or legal professional looking to move beyond purely technical work and into a broader leadership position where your expertise will have tangible influence across a large and evolving organisation.
