Permanent Standalone Payroll Specialist in North Sydney - MUST have implementation experience!

This global organisation is seeking a Payroll Specialist to take ownership of their Australian payroll function during an exciting period of change and transformation. Supporting a small volume workforce across multiple states, you'll play a critical role in leading payroll operations while driving the implementation of a new payroll platform. Based in North Sydney, this is a permanent full-time opportunity with a hybrid working model following the successful completion of your probation.
Your new role
Reporting into the Finance team, you will take ownership of the end-to-end payroll function while supporting broader finance activities as required.
- Process end-to-end payroll for a small workforce across multiple Australian states
- Lead the system transition, including implementation, testing, data validation and stakeholder engagement
- Act as the payroll SME, providing guidance and support to the wider business
- Ensure ongoing compliance with Australian payroll legislation, superannuation, taxation requirements and reporting obligations
- Manage payroll reconciliations, audits and reporting activities
- Produce detailed payroll reports and analysis, leveraging advanced Excel skills
- Partner closely with HR, Finance and external stakeholders to maintain payroll data integrity
- Support payroll-related projects,
continuous improvement initiatives and process enhancements
- Assist the broader Finance team with ad hoc finance and administrative duties as required
What you'll need to succeed
- Demonstrated experience running end-to-end payroll with minimal supervision
- Previous payroll system implementation or migration experience, ideally in a lead capacity
- Strong payroll compliance knowledge across Australian payroll legislation
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyse and report on payroll data
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- High attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities
- Experience across multi-state payroll environments
- Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of payroll operations
