Oakridge Services is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to take a key role in the delivery of complex civil utilities projects across Southeast Queensland.
This is a predominantly site-based role, suited to a capable, hands-on engineer who wants to be directly involved in construction delivery, take greater ownership of project outcomes and progress toward a Project Management role within a growing civil construction business.
About the Role
Reporting to the Project Manager, you will take responsibility for the engineering, planning, commercial and operational delivery of defined work packages from preconstruction through construction, commissioning and closeout.
The role will be predominantly site-based across projects in Southeast Queensland, working closely with Site Engineers, Supervisors, Foremen and construction crews while maintaining regular engagement with clients, designers, subcontractors and suppliers.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the coordination and delivery of civil utilities work packages, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with project requirements.
- Developing construction methodologies, staging plans, short-term programs and look-aheads, and identifying constraints before they impact delivery.
- Providing technical guidance to site teams and resolving design, constructability and site issues.
- Managing RFIs, design changes, technical queries and interfaces with clients, designers and other stakeholders.
- Monitoring project costs, productivity and progress, including forecasting, cost-to-complete and financial reporting to the Project Manager.
- Identifying, preparing and managing variations, scope changes and other contractual entitlements.
- Managing procurement, subcontractors and suppliers to achieve project cost, quality, safety and programme requirements.
- Coordinating labour, plant, materials and subcontract resources to meet project delivery targets.
- Managing project quality requirements including ITPs,
inspections, testing, hold points, NCRs and handover documentation.
- Supporting the development and implementation of Project Management Plans, SWMS, environmental controls and project-specific procedures.
- Ensuring compliance with Oakridge Services' safety, environmental and quality systems and ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 requirements.
- Building strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors and project stakeholders.
- Mentoring Site Engineers and supporting the development of project delivery capability across the business.
- Proactively identifying project risks, opportunities and improvements and working with the Project Manager to implement appropriate actions.
About You
We are looking for a practical, commercially aware engineer with strong civil construction and utilities experience who is comfortable working predominantly in a site workplace and close to the construction teams delivering the work.
Ideally, you will have:
- A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent tertiary qualification, supported by relevant civil construction experience.
- 5+ years' experience in project engineering, preferably within civil utilities or infrastructure construction.
- Experience delivering water, wastewater, pipelines, drainage or associated civil infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of construction methodology, temporary works, sequencing, planning and site delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to manage project costs, forecasting, procurement and subcontractor performance.
- Experience with variations, RFIs, scope changes and construction contract administration.
- Robust communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients, engineers, supervisors, subcontractors and field crews.
- Sound commercial judgement and the ability to identify issues early and develop practical solutions.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work fronts.
- A genuine commitment to safety, quality and environmental performance.
- A hands-on approach and willingness to work alongside site teams to support successful project delivery.
- The ambition and capability to progress into a Project Management role as Oakridge Services continues to grow.
Experience working on brownfield utilities, live services, pipeline construction, water or wastewater infrastructure will be highly regarded.
