The Underground Collaborative (TUC) is a Perth-based social enterprise creating pathways out of homelessness through employment, education and empowerment for women and young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Our café Ground+Co, operates from the State Library of Western Australia, with Grounded Gatherings providing catering for meetings and events.

About The Role

We're looking for a practical, organised and enthusiastic Catering Coordinator to prepare outstanding food and help grow Grounded Gatherings to start immediately.

This hands-on role combines food preparation for Ground+Co Café and Grounded Gatherings with end-to-end coordination of catering orders. You'll respond to enquiries, prepare quotes, confirm details and coordinate food preparation and delivery, ensuring every order is accurate, on time and presented to a high standard.

Our menu combines food made in-house with products sourced from trusted external suppliers, with scope to contribute ideas and develop new food offerings.

As a social enterprise, people are just as important to us as great food. You'll work alongside our beneficiaries (Team Members), providing practical guidance and helping them build hospitality skills, confidence and workplace experience in a supportive environment.

Your primary responsibilities include:

- Prepare food for Ground+Co café and Grounded Gatherings catering orders

- Coordinate all catering orders from enquiry through to delivery

- Respond promptly and professionally to catering enquiries by email and phone

- Prepare and send catering quotes

- Follow up enquiries, prepare confirmations and finalise catering details including numbers, delivery times and dietary requirements





- Plan food preparation and food orders to meet catering bookings efficiently

- Develop ideas and prepare new café and catering menu items where applicable

- Regular order of food and inventory from established suppliers

- Ensure catering orders are prepared accurately, on time and presented to a high standard

- Coordinate catering packing, collection and/or delivery

- Monitor food and catering stock levels and minimise waste

- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness

- Work collaboratively with the Café Manager and wider Ground+Co team

- Support, coach and guide Team Members involved in food preparation and catering

- Assist with other café food preparation as required

About You

We're looking for someone who is organised, reliable and proactive - someone who's happy to roll up their sleeves, get into the kitchen and make things happen.

Ideally, you'll have:

- Experience in catering, café, kitchen or hospitality operations

- Confidence with food preparation in a commercial environment

- Strong organisation and time-management skills

- Excellent attention to detail

- Professional written and verbal communication skills

- Confidence communicating with customers and responding to enquiries

- The ability to manage several catering orders and deadlines at once





- Knowledge of food safety and safe food-handling practices with appropriate certificates (or happy to obtain)

- A proactive approach - you notice what needs to be done and get on with it

- A collaborative and supportive approach to working with people from different backgrounds

- An interest in using your hospitality skills to help others develop theirs

Hours and Employment

This is a casual role with hours based on café and catering needs. Ground+Co is open from 7.30am–2.00pm, with catering for morning teas, lunches and afternoon teas, including drop-off catering within the Perth CBD. Work will generally be Monday to Friday, with early starts and early finishes.

Shifts will be rostered around bookings and food preparation requirements rather than set weekly hours, with the potential for hours to increase as Grounded Gatherings grows.

There is no regular evening or weekend work. Any work outside usual weekday hours would be by separate arrangement.
