Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced, detail-focused Structural Steel Estimator to prepare accurate and commercially sound quotations for steel fabrication and erection projects.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will review tender documentation, complete take-offs, assess labour and supplier costs, and work with internal and external teams to submit accurate, well-supported tenders.

Key Responsibilities
Review plans, specifications, schedules, addenda, tender documents and contract requirements.
Complete accurate material take-offs for structural steel, plate, fixings, coatings, transport items and associated components.
Calculate fabrication, welding, surface treatment, drafting, project management and erection labour requirements.
Obtain, compare and assess supplier and subcontractor pricing.
Prepare detailed cost estimates, quotation breakdowns, tender submissions, clarifications, qualifications, inclusions and exclusions.
Liaise with clients, builders, engineers, suppliers and subcontractors to clarify scope and support tender negotiations.
Assist with variation pricing, post-tender reviews, handover information and cost support for awarded projects.

Experience Required:
Strong understanding of steel fabrication, erection processes, structural steel components,



workshop workflows and site installation requirements.
Ability to read and interpret structural, architectural, civil and shop drawings.
Accurate material take-off skills and strong numerical, analytical and commercial judgement.
Advanced Excel skills and experience using estimating templates, pricing schedules and cost tracking tools.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tenders, priorities and deadlines.
Trade qualification in fabrication, boiler making, welding, steel detailing, construction or engineering will be highly regarded.
Knowledge of AS/NZS 5131 and relevant Australian standards will be highly regarded.
Experience using estimating software, Tekla, steel detailing outputs, project management systems, supplier portals or ERP/job costing systems is required.
