Centrecare is a not-for-profit organisation with over 300 employees and is committed to delivering quality qualified counselling, support, accommodation, mediation and training services in over 11 locations across the Perth metropolitan, Goldfields and South West regions.
Wungening is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation delivering counselling, education, advocacy and support services including drug and alcohol, family violence support and accommodation, adult justice services and earlier intervention family support services.
About the Service
BeyondYJS Banksia Hill is a youth justice service delivered by Centrecare within Banksia Hill Detention Centre (BHDC).
The service provides counselling, mentoring, and throughcare support to young people in custody through both individual and group-based interventions.
It focuses on building positive relationships, strengthening wellbeing, supporting rehabilitation, and preparing young people for successful reintegration into the community.
Youth Workers work collaboratively with young people, Department of Justice staff and the BeyondYJS community team to promote positive outcomes and ensure continuity of support throughout a young person's custodial experience and transition back into the community.
Youth Worker provides individualised, trauma-informed support to young people in detention through engagement, mentoring,
counselling, and skill development activities.
The role focuses on building trusting relationships, supporting emotional wellbeing, encouraging pro-social behaviours, and assisting young people to identify and work towards personal goals.
The role requires a strengths-based, culturally safe approach and a commitment to supporting young people with complex needs in a challenging but rewarding environment.
Strong interpersonal and group facilitation skills are required.
About You
Minimum bachelor's degree qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Youth Work and related disciplines or equivalent.
Demonstrated ability to provide culturally secure work practices when working with Aboriginal people and with people of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds.
Minimum 3 years' experience in providing rehabilitation and emotional wellbeing services in youth work, youth diversion, general counselling, group facilitation, family support and/or youth counselling.
Understanding of criminogenic factors of youth offending.
Working with Children Check.
WA Driver's licence and access to reliable vehicle.
Ability to obtain Youth Justice Screening clearance (candidates unable to obtain clearance will not be eligible for employment).
