Brisbane
At Juma Consulting Engineers, they're passionate about helping bring residential and commercial projects to life through quality pre‐construction solutions. As a Brisbane‐based business with more than 20 years of industry experience, their team delivers integrated services across building design, structural engineering, soil testing and energy efficiency, supporting projects from concept through to construction with practical expertise and a customer‐first mindset.
They are now looking for an experienced Structural Engineer to join the team and take ownership of the commercial and light industrial segment of the business.
This is a hands‐on technical opportunity for an engineer who genuinely enjoys the technical aspect and wants to remain close to the design and delivery of projects. While the primary focus will be commercial and light industrial work, there is plenty of variety across the broader business and the opportunity to become involved in more complex residential projects.
The Opportunity
Working closely with the Engineering Manager and broader technical team, you will take responsibility for the structural engineering and delivery of commercial and light industrial projects, with a significant proportion of the current portfolio comprising childcare centres and small warehouse developments.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the structural engineering and design delivery of commercial and light industrial projects
Manage projects across childcare centres, warehouses and other small‐to‐medium commercial developments
Undertake structural design across timber‐frame, concrete and structural steel construction
Design and provide technical input across elements including tilt‐up concrete panels, suspended slabs and steel structures
Independently manage technical deliverables and sign off engineering work as an RPEQ
Work collaboratively with clients, builders,
designers and other project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
Provide practical engineering solutions that balance technical requirements with buildability and commercial considerations
Contribute to high‐end and multi‐storey residential projects where required
Build strong, trusted relationships with existing clients and provide a responsive, solutions‐focused service
Where appropriate, identify opportunities to strengthen existing relationships and contribute to current client and business development opportunities
As an RPEQ, you will have the capability and confidence to take ownership of your work and sign off your own projects.
About You
You are first and foremost a technical Structural Engineer who enjoys getting into the detail, solving engineering problems and delivering high‐quality work. You are comfortable taking ownership of projects and enjoy working within a smaller business where you can remain hands‐on and have genuine visibility over the outcomes you deliver.
You will ideally bring:
RPEQ registration, with the ability to independently sign off structural engineering work
Demonstrated structural engineering experience across commercial, light industrial and/or complex residential projects
Strong technical capability across timber‐frame construction
Experience designing concrete structures, including exposure to tilt‐up panels and suspended slabs
Strong understanding and experience across structural steel
The ability to independently manage projects from design through to delivery
A practical and solutions‐focused approach to engineering and problem solving
Strong communication skills and the ability to confidently manage client and stakeholder relationships
A willingness to remain hands‐on with technical engineering work rather than moving exclusively into people or project management
An interest in developing client relationships and, ideally, contributing to the growth of the commercial and light industrial portfolio
