About the Role: Based at our Perth office, the Materials Lead is responsible for establishing and managing the end-to-end materials management process across major engineering and construction projects.
This role provides leadership in the development and maintenance of project Bills of Materials (BOMs), Material Take-Offs (MTOs), commodity coding structures and material tracking systems to ensure complete visibility of materials from engineering through procurement, logistics, construction and project completion.
You will work closely with Engineering, Procurement, Vendors, Logistics and Construction teams.
The Materials Lead ensures materials are accurately identified, procured, tracked, expedited and delivered to support schedules while minimizing delays and material shortages.
Key Responsibilities:
Materials Management
Lead the development and implementation of project materials management strategies including development of procedures, workflows and system architecture.
Establish end-to-end material control processes for major projects.
Develop and maintain whole-of-project Bills of Materials (BOMs).
Coordinate Material Take-Off (MTO) development across engineering disciplines.
Ensure alignment between engineering deliverables, procurement activities and construction requirements.
Maintain complete material traceability throughout the project lifecycle.
Materials Management
Lead the development and implementation of project materials management strategies including development of procedures, workflows and system architecture.
Establish end-to-end material control processes for major projects.
Develop and maintain whole-of-project Bills of Materials (BOMs).
Coordinate Material Take-Off (MTO) development across engineering disciplines.
Ensure alignment between engineering deliverables, procurement activities and construction requirements.
Maintain complete material traceability throughout the project lifecycle.
Material Take-Offs (MTOs)
Develop the structure for and coordinate the consolidation of Material Take-Offs from Engineering.
MTO structures to support efficient procurement and construction.
Ensure MTO workflows and revision control structures accurately reflect engineering design changes.
Develop structures for and coordinate MTO inputs into consolidated project BOMs.
Conduct regular audits to ensure accuracy of MTO and BOM usage t across projects.




Bill of Materials (BOM) Management
Establish project-wide BOM structures.
Maintain accurate BOMs throughout project execution.
Coordinate updates resulting from engineering revisions.
Establish workflows and systems that ensure BOM integrity across procurement, warehousing and construction systems.
Oversee and monitor material quantities, shortages and surpluses.
Material Status Reporting
Develop material status reporting dashboards.
Provide visibility of material status from:
Engineering release
Procurement
Manufacturing
Inspection
Shipping
Warehousing
Site delivery
Work pack allocation
Issued to construction
Produce regular material status reports for leadership.
Identify critical material risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Expediting & Supplier Coordination
Expedite critical materials to support project schedules.
Liaise directly with vendors and suppliers regarding manufacturing progress.
Monitor supplier performance and delivery commitments.
Coordinate inspections and release activities where required.
Resolve material shortages and delivery issues.
Work closely with Procurement to minimize schedule impacts.
Project Controls
Support project planning through material forecasting.
Monitor material-related schedule risks.
Assist with progress reporting.
Participate in project risk reviews relating to materials.
Commodity Coding & Data Management
Develop and implement commodity coding structures.
Review existing coding systems and recommend improvements.
Ensure consistency across engineering, procurement and warehouse systems.
Improve material reporting through effective coding methodologies.
Support master data governance for project materials.
Qualifications
Must have a Tertiary Qualifications in Business Administration, Finance, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Engineering or relevant field
5 years' experience as Material leads or equivalent
Expert level at Excel
Extensive experience developing and managing Material Take-Offs (MTOs).
Strong experience managing complex project Bills of Materials (BOMs).
Demonstrated experience implementing and managing materials management systems
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience coordinating engineering, procurement and construction material workflows._
Robust understanding of commodity coding structures




Experience expediting critical materials.
