ABOUT USGran's Van Association Inc is a valued member of the Devonport community having provided food relief services for 20 years.
With the ongoing increase to cost of living, many people in our community find it difficult to consistently maintain food security.
That is why we are starting Make It Fresh (market and café): an opportunity to support more people in Devonport with dignified access to affordable groceries and meals.
ABOUT THE ROLEGran's Van Association Inc is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Café Manager to lead our café operations in Devonport, Tasmania.
This is a full-time position offering an exciting opportunity to manage all aspects of a busy café environment, from daily operations to staff management and customer service excellence.
You will be responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere whilst ensuring the café runs smoothly and profitably.
This role is based on-site in Devonport, TAS ****, where you will be at the heart of our hospitality offering.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Social Impact
Provide hands-on mentoring and training for staff, volunteers, and trainees, building their confidence, technical skills and employability
Foster a welcoming, culturally safe and inclusive environment
Track and document the progress of participants to meet funding or organisational goals
Operations + Customer Experience
Manage day-to-day operations of the café in alignment with the organisations service provision goals and strategies
Ensure flawless execution of drink and food orders, maintaining specialty coffee standards and menu quality
Deliver exceptional customer service, responding to feedback and maintaining a welcoming community hub




Ensure all WHS and Food Safety regulations are strictly adhered to and documented
Finance + Business Management
Regular monitoring of revenue and expenditure to meet budget expectations and maximise profitability (within the scope of agreed service provision goals)
Manage inventory, order supplies, and negotiate with vendors as required
Liaise with the Manager in relation to the use of market products before they become waste
Liaise with the Manager in utilising leftover meals as pre-packaged meals available for sale in the café and / or market
Analyse sales data to make informed adjustments to menus, pricing and waste reduction

SKILLS + EXPERIENCE
• Proven Experience as a café manager or supervisor, ideally leading a team of baristas, front-of house staff, and volunteers
• Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships, providing feedback and encouraging development




• Customer focussed with a passion for delivering outstanding customer service
• High level barista skills with a solid understanding of grinder calibration and specialty coffee production
• A demonstrated passion for social justice, community building and supporting vulnerable or marginalised people
• Solid problem-solving abilities, proficiency with POS systems, and ability to manage competing priorities
• Dedication to ensuring a safe, inclusive and compliant workplace environment
• Experience in food quality management
• Experience in catering for small events and functions
• Food Safety Supervisor Certificate
• Working with Vulnerable People card
• Demonstrated ability to work as a key member of a management team
EMPLOYMENT INFO
• 3-month evaluation period
• Annual review after initial evaluation period is complete
• Full-time, 38 hours per week
• Café open from minimum of 10am to 6pm, 5 days per week
• Direct Report: Make it Fresh Manager
• Oversight by: Gran's Van Board of Management
• Restaurant Award (MA******)
