Be the vital connection that keeps Nepean Hospital communicating, informed and responsive 24 hours a day. As a Switchboard Operator, you will play a pivotal role in delivering professional, customer-focused telephony and administrative support services that contribute to the efficient and safe operation of the hospital.
In this temporary part time position, you will manage incoming calls, emergency communications, paging services, patient enquiries and hospital information requests. You will maintain accurate patient movement and operational records, support after-hours services, and facilitate effective communication between clinical, non-clinical and external stakeholders,
while ensuring compliance with organisational policies and procedures. As a key member of the team, you will help coordinate critical communication across the hospital and community. The successful applicant will be required to work a 24/7 rotating roster, including morning, day, afternoon, night, weekend and public holiday shifts.

What you will bring to the role
- Demonstrated experience operating a multi-line or multi-extension switchboard and effectively managing high volumes of concurrent calls while maintaining accuracy, professionalism and customer service standards.
- Demonstrated experience using effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including patients, visitors, clinical staff and external service providers.
- Demonstrated experience accurately recording, communicating and maintaining information through written messages, electronic systems, databases and hard-copy records, with a strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including the ability to exercise sound judgement and adapt to changing operational priorities.
- Demonstrated computer literacy and experience using multiple information systems, with proficient keyboard, data entry and information management skills.
- Demonstrated reliability, flexibility and commitment to supporting a 24-hour service, including the ability to work rotating shifts and respond to changing operational requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise competing tasks and manage workload effectively in a busy, high-pressure environment while consistently meeting service standards and organisational requirements.
- Demonstrated experience in a frontline customer service role, including the ability to use problem-solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills to achieve effective outcomes in challenging situations.
