About the role:

Phlebotomy staff are responsible for the collection of high quality and cost-effective specimens to clients of Pathology Queensland. A phlebotomist is part of a specialised team within the metropolitan Brisbane area, which is highly motivated, dynamic, and committed to excellent client services and care of Queensland Health patients. It is anticipated that members of the metropolitan Phlebotomy team will have a primary work location at one of the two hospital laboratories, however movement between sites may be required and will be undertaken with appropriate consultation.

Your key responsibilities include:

- Collection of appropriate quality blood and non-blood specimens from clients of Pathology Queensland as per documented protocols.
- Ensure correct patient identification, labelling and collecting techniques are followed according to documented policies and procedures.
- Proven ability to manage time effectively.
- Maintain above-average attendance, punctuality, and impeccable behaviour in the workplace.
- Ability to use computer-based collections systems and electronic medical record systems.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with patients, hospital staff and colleagues to ensure the correct collection of appropriate blood and non-blood specimens from inpatients and outpatients as requested.
- Perform duties that include the restocking of pathology consumables, maintaining clean work areas and assisting where directed by Phlebotomy Supervisors.
- Comply with and utilise procedures, policies, regulations,

and standards which impact upon the position including Queensland Health Code of Conduct, contemporary human resource management requirements and practices, such as workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination policy.

Role fit:

You will thrive in a fast-paced healthcare environment, demonstrating flexibility to work across a rotating roster, including weekdays, weekends and public holidays, and providing additional support when required to meet patient care needs. You will bring, or quickly develop, strong skills in specimen collection and handling, with a sound understanding of standard precautions, pathology processes and medical terminology. With excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow procedures accurately, you will effectively prioritise workloads to meet turnaround times and service standards. Your strong interpersonal skills, commitment to teamwork and focus on quality management and continuous improvement will enable you to contribute to the delivery of safe, efficient and patient-centred pathology services.
