Construction Surveyor — Take Your Construction Surveying Career to the Next Level
Practical Experience + Company Vehicle + Variety of Work + Modern Equipment + Career Progression
Are you a surveyor with 1–3 years of experience looking for an opportunity to broaden your skills, take on more responsibility and become really good at construction surveying?
We're looking for a Surveyor to join our team and continue developing a long-term career in construction surveying.
You've learned the basics of surveying. Now it's time to build on them.
You already understand the fundamentals. What matters now is finding the right environment to develop your technical skills, gain broader experience and build the confidence to work independently.
About Us
Willis Setouts & Surveys is an industry leader in domestic construction surveying, recognised for our high standards and commitment to client satisfaction. With offices in South Melbourne, Pakenham and Geelong, we handle projects across Victoria and lower NSW.
We pride ourselves on offering a supportive environment that genuinely values work-life balance.
We value strong technical skills and surveying experience, but we also recognise that every surveyor develops differently. Our aim is to provide the right mix of work, support and responsibility to help you continue progressing.
About The Role
You've learned how to survey. Now we'll help you become really good at construction surveying.
At 1–3 years into your career, you've already developed the fundamentals.
You know how to use surveying equipment, take measurements, set out work and interpret plans.
Now is the time to broaden your experience and start developing the judgement, problem-solving skills and confidence that separate a competent surveyor from a great one.
You'll work across a variety of real construction projects, alongside experienced surveyors, progressively taking on more responsibility as your skills develop.
Your career progression can look like:
Surveyor → Experienced Surveyor → Senior Surveyor
As you progress, you'll take on increasing:
- Technical responsibility
- Project responsibility
- Client interaction
- Problem-solving and decision-making
- Independence
- Mentoring and leadership
- Earning potential
What you'll get
- Competitive salary based on your experience and capability
- Company vehicle for work
- Support and mentoring from experienced surveyors
- Exposure to a variety of construction surveying work
- Experience across domestic construction, civil and feature surveying
- Modern surveying equipment and technology
- The prospect to broaden your technical skillset
- Increasing autonomy as your skills develop
- Structured salary progression as your skills and responsibilities increase
- A supportive team that values work-life balance
- The opportunity to build a long-term career in a specialised technical industry
What you'll be doing
As you develop, you'll gain experience across areas such as:
- Setting out construction works
- Taking accurate measurements and levels
- Using total stations, GPS and other surveying equipment
- Reading plans and interpreting construction and engineering drawings
- Checking construction works against design
- Feature and contour surveying
- Civil construction surveying
- Recording and reporting survey information
- Working with site supervisors, engineers and project teams
- Communicating with clients and construction professionals
- Solving practical problems on active construction sites
- Planning and managing your own work
- Progressively taking responsibility for projects and outcomes
You'll start with support and guidance and progressively take on more responsibility as your technical ability, confidence and judgement develop.
Who we're looking for
This could be a great fit if you:
- Have approximately 1–3 years of surveying experience
- Have a genuine interest in developing your construction surveying skills
- Want to broaden your experience across different types of surveying work
- Enjoy practical, hands-on work rather than sitting behind a desk all day
- Are comfortable working outdoors and on construction sites
- Have good attention to detail
- Take pride in the accuracy and quality of your work
- Can solve problems and think practically
- Communicate well and work as part of a team
- Are reliable and willing to continue learning
- Hold a current driver's licence
We're not looking for someone who knows everything.
We're looking for someone who has built a good foundation and wants to keep developing.
Build your skills. Build your career.
The first few years of surveying are about building your foundations.
The next step is about turning that experience into genuine capability.
At Willis Setouts & Surveys, you'll have the opportunity to work across domestic construction, civil and feature surveying, giving you exposure to different environments, challenges and types of work.
You'll continue developing your technical skills while gaining the confidence and judgement to work more independently.
If you're looking for more than simply moving from one surveying job to another, we'd like to hear from you.
Take the next step in your surveying career with Willis.
