We are seeking an experienced, reliable and compassionate Disability Support Worker to provide one-to-one support to an adult NDIS participant living independently in Nunawading, VIC.

This is a complex support role suited to someone who is confident working with neurodiversity, psychosocial disability, mental health needs and behaviours of concern.

The participant benefits from workers who are calm, consistent, respectful and able to build rapport while maintaining clear professional boundaries.

About the Role

Regular support hours are currently:

- Monday: 12:00 pm–6:00 pm

- Thursday: 12:00 pm–6:00 pm

- Approximately 12 hours per week

These hours may change in consultation with the participant and support team.

The role includes supporting the participant with everyday living, community access, social participation, transport and maintaining independence.

Key Responsibilities

Your duties may include:

- Supporting daily living activities and routines

- Assisting with community access and participation

- Providing transport to appointments, activities and community outings

- Supporting social and recreational activities

- Encouraging independence, choice and decision-making

- Providing emotional regulation support

- Using appropriate de-escalation strategies

- Following behaviour support strategies and relevant support plans

- Maintaining clear and appropriate skilled boundaries

- Responding calmly and professionally during periods of escalation

- Completing progress notes and incident reports

- Communicating effectively with the participant's wider support team





- Supporting a safe and respectful environment for both the participant and worker

About the Participant

The participant has complex neurodevelopmental and psychosocial support needs and requires workers who understand the importance of consistency, patience and person-centred support.

Relevant experience may include supporting people with:

- Autism Spectrum Disorder

- ADHD

- Anxiety and depression

- Psychosocial disability

- Emotional dysregulation

- Obsessive-compulsive behaviours

- Personality disorders

- Behaviours of concern

- Complex mental health needs

At times, the participant may display verbal aggression, challenging communication or discriminatory language when experiencing distress or emotional dysregulation.

For this reason, applicants must be confident in maintaining professional boundaries, remaining calm during escalation and following appropriate de-escalation and behaviour support strategies.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

- Calm, patient and emotionally regulated

- Reliable and consistent

- Confident supporting behaviours of concern

- Experienced in complex disability or mental health support

- Respectful, non-judgemental and person-centred

- Able to build rapport while maintaining professional boundaries





- Comfortable working independently in a one-to-one support environment

- Confident with incident reporting and progress notes

- LGBTQIA+ affirming

- Neurodiversity affirming

- Able to work collaboratively with coordinators, behaviour practitioners and other members of the support team

- Experience supporting transgender, LGBTQIA+ or neurodiverse participants will be highly regarded.

Essential Requirements

Applicants should have:

- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check

- Current Working with Children Check

- Current Police Check

- Current First Aid and CPR

- Current Victorian driver's licence

- Reliable and appropriately insured vehicle

- Relevant disability, community services or mental health experience

- Australian working rights

- Ability to complete progress notes and incident documentation

- Availability on Mondays and Thursdays

- Relevant qualifications such as Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, Community Services, Mental Health or a related field will be highly regarded.
