Our client is an established not-for-profit organisation entering an exciting period of growth and development. This is an opportunity to join a purpose-led organisation and play a key role in strengthening its financial capability and supporting its future direction.
Position
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Finance Director to provide senior financial leadership on an initial 2–3 month contract. Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Board and senior stakeholders, you will be the organisation’s senior finance subject matter expert, taking ownership of the finance function and providing strong financial management, reporting and governance. This is a broad role with the prospect to improve efficiencies, optimise systems and processes and help build a future-proof finance function that supports the organisation’s next stage of growth.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Ownership of financial control, management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and reporting
- Providing clear and timely financial information and advice to the CEO, Board and senior stakeholders
- Oversight of funding, grants and acquittals, ensuring relevant compliance obligations are met
- Working effectively with the organisation’s external accounting provider
- Strengthening financial controls, processes and reporting
- Identifying opportunities to improve efficiencies through systems, automation and process improvement
- Providing financial analysis and insights to support organisational decision-making
- Helping shape and build out the finance function, including growing internal capability over time
Profile
This role will suit an experienced senior finance professional who enjoys taking ownership of a broad finance remit and is equally comfortable operating at a strategic level and getting into the detail when required.
You may already be operating as a Finance Director or Head of Finance, or be an experienced Financial Controller or senior Finance Manager ready to step into a broader leadership remit.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- CA/CPA qualification or equivalent
- Strong finance experience within the not-for-profit sector
- Demonstrated experience with funding, grants and acquittals
- Broad financial management experience across reporting, budgeting, forecasting, compliance and audit
- Strong financial governance, controls and risk management capability
- Confidence partnering with CEOs, Boards and senior stakeholders
- Strong systems capability, ideally including Xero
- A track record of improving finance processes, systems and efficiencies
- A practical, proactive and solutions-focused approach with the ability to quickly take ownership
You may already be operating as a Finance Director or Head of Finance, or be an experienced Financial Controller or senior Finance Manager ready to step into a broader leadership remit.
