Yawoorroong Miriuwung Gajerrong Yirrgeb Noong Dawang Aboriginal Corporation (MG Corporation) was established in 2006 to receive and manage the benefits transferred under the OFA to the MG People, who are recognised under Australian law as holding Native Title over large areas in the North of Western Australia’s East Kimberley region.

About the role
As a Home Stretch Transition Coach, you will guide, mentor, and support young people aged 17–21 as they transition from out-of-home care to independent living and adulthood, reporting directly to the Home Stretch Coordinator.
In this casual role, you will assist young people to access supports and resources available through extended care arrangements, provide tailored, culturally safe, and strengths-based case management and coordination, and work collaboratively with key stakeholders including Department of Communities staff, foster families, carers, kin, community members, and other significant people in the young person’s life.
Important pre-employment requirement: To be offered an employment contract, applicants must hold a current Working with Children Check and a National Police Clearance that is no older than six months, or be able to obtain these documents immediately following a letter of offer.
Duties
- Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary issues in Aboriginal culture, in the context of kinship, community and the community services sector.
- Work flexibly, on an outreach basis, to provide quality individualised support incorporating culturally safe, person-centred, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approaches.
- Provide regular individual mentoring and coaching to young people to support them to develop the skills, connections, and self-confidence they require to achieve independence and stable living arrangements.
- Assist young people to find and maintain safe and stable housing,
exploring a broad range of options within their natural networks, community housing, and private/public housing opportunities.
- Support young people to develop and maintain solid cultural connections, access education, training and employment opportunities, maintain stable accommodation, access relevant services, build independent living skills, and connect with recreational and social networks.
- Support young people to access Invest in Me Brokerage Funding and provide strong advocacy with stakeholders.
- Work respectfully and in partnership with key internal and external stakeholders, including building and maintaining strong relationships with the Department of Communities to strengthen referral pathways.
- Deliver accurate information about Home Stretch to prospective young people, Department of Communities staff, and other out-of-home care service providers.
- Interview and assess young people referred to Home Stretch to build a holistic understanding of their support needs.
- Attend and participate in team and staff meetings, including presenting cases for consultation and discussion.
- Contribute to effective systems and practice improvements that better support young people.
- Maintain a strong commitment to the principles underpinning the service model and ensure young people’s experiences and expertise inform the refinement and roll-out of the model.
- Deliver services and supports within a strengths-building model that reflects best practice for Aboriginal children and young people in care.
- Participate in meetings, training, supervision, and annual performance reviews that contribute to team and organisational success.
- Develop, build, and maintain relationships across the organisation.
- Be a strong advocate for Aboriginal children, families, and culture, supporting and honouring self-determination.
What you will need
Essential Criteria
- Must have full working rights in Australia.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and the ability to work with Aboriginal young people, communities, and families.
- Demonstrated experience engaging, building strong relationships with, and motivating at-risk Aboriginal young people.
- A thorough understanding of the barriers and difficulties facing Aboriginal young people with experiences of out-of-home care.
- Ability to be innovative and flexible, work independently, demonstrate initiative, and work effectively under pressure.
- Ability to assist Aboriginal young people to develop independent living skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.
- Up-to-date knowledge of resources in the youth services field, including education, training, and employment.
- Understanding of youth housing and accommodation systems.
- Demonstrated behaviour management, conflict resolution, advocacy, and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated skills in safety management and dynamic risk assessment.
- Ability to work in a team and collaborate effectively with others.
Desirable Criteria
- Good understanding of drug and alcohol and mental health issues and support services.
Qualifications & Licences
- Current Working with Children Check. Applicants must either hold this at the time of offer or be able to obtain it immediately following a letter of offer.

- Satisfactory Department of Communities Departmental Check, including Departmental Record Check and Criminal Record Check.
- Current Driver’s Licence and the ability to travel in response to organisational needs.
Package
$58.38 per hour + superannuation.
There is also likely to be ongoing casual work available within Home Stretch and other youth programs.
Housing is not included in this role and it would be the responsibility of the applicant to secure housing prior to their start date.
