The Role: AI Engineer

Reporting to the ICT Solutions Manager, the AI Engineer will design, develop, deploy and support secure, reliable and production-ready artificial intelligence solutions for Sadleirs. You’ll turn approved business opportunities into governed AI applications, agents, machine-learning services and intelligent workflows using Microsoft Azure AI Foundry and the broader Azure ecosystem.

Working closely with our Data, Integration, Infrastructure and Cybersecurity teams, you’ll help deliver measurable improvements across operations, customer service and decision-making.

Work base: Onsite in Kewdale, Perth

Employment type: Full-time, maximum-term 12-month contract.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Designing and maintaining reusable AI engineering patterns, standards and solution architectures aligned with ICT strategy, security and business priorities.

- Translating business problems into clear use cases, process designs, acceptance criteria, evaluation plans and measurable benefits, and selecting the most suitable AI, automation or analytics approach.

- Developing and deploying enterprise AI assistants, copilots, agents,



machine-learning services and intelligent applications using Microsoft Azure AI Foundry and approved Azure services.

- Designing secure retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) solutions, including document ingestion, embeddings, search, reranking, grounding and citation handling.

- Developing agentic and deterministic workflows that connect models to authorised tools, APIs, enterprise data and human approval points.

- Building clean, maintainable and reusable Python code, APIs, serverless components, scripts and data-processing modules using secure software-engineering practices.

- Establishing MLOps and LLMOps practices for testing, CI/CD, monitoring, evaluation, release approvals, rollback and lifecycle management.

- Applying security-by-design, privacy-by-design and responsible-AI controls, including data protection, prompt-injection controls, output validation and auditability.

- Monitoring and continuously improving production AI solutions, including investigating defects, unsafe or low-quality outputs and implementing corrective actions.

- Supporting discovery sessions and technical workshops, supporting user acceptance testing and adoption, and clearly communicating AI capabilities, trade-offs, risks and limitations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What you’ll need:

- A tertiary qualification in computer science, software engineering, data science, artificial intelligence, information technology, mathematics or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

- 3+ years’ experience delivering production AI solutions, including Azure AI Foundry or comparable platforms, AI agents, RAG and LLM applications.

- Robust Azure AI Foundry and Azure OpenAI expertise,



including prompt engineering, RAG, agents and tool calling.

- Strong Python, SQL and API development skills, with experience in Git, testing, CI/CD and secure Azure deployment practices.

- Experience with MLOps/LLMOps, Azure DevOps, monitoring, evaluation, rollback and responsible-AI controls.

- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a commercial and pragmatic focus on business value and reliable outcomes.

- Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach across technical, non-technical, business and ICT teams.

- A strong commitment to secure, maintainable solutions, confidentiality, privacy and responsible AI.

Highly regarded: Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate; other relevant Azure, Fabric, DevOps, SnowPro or cloud/security certifications; experience with Azure AI Search, Agent Service, Microsoft Agent Framework or Semantic Kernel; and exposure to multimodal AI or transport, logistics, finance, safety or compliance environments.
