About us:

The Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (CHHHS) Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs (MHAOD) Service is leading the way in innovative perinatal mental health care. As pioneers of an Australian-first model, we are proud to deliver the Perinatal Acute Mental Health Hospital in the Home (PAMH-HITH) program, providing women and birthing people experiencing severe and acute perinatal mental illness with specialist, hospital-level care close to home.

This service is designed to operate as a virtual inpatient bed admission model, where consumers receive hospital-equivalent care in their home environment rather than within a traditional inpatient unit or Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) as a proposed interim model designed to meet the care needs of the community until a time when a physical MBU can be established in the Cairns and Hinterland region.

Join a passionate, multidisciplinary team that is redefining perinatal mental health care and improving outcomes for women, babies and families across Central Queensland.

The outer western region of our service includes extremely remote communities. Cairns Hospital is the only major referral hospital in Far North Queensland and also provides care for people from Cape York and the Torres Strait.

About your role:

- Provide culturally safe,

trauma-informed support, advocacy and care coordination for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, birthing people and families receiving Perinatal Acute Mental Health Hospital in the Home services, including home visits, case management follow-ups and referrals.
- Deliver culturally responsive, woman- centred care by recognising individual needs, respecting cultural identity and conducting culturally informed assessments that promote social, emotional and cultural wellbeing.
- Empower consumers to make informed healthcare decisions through consultation, health education, health promotion and the provision of culturally appropriate information.
- Work collaboratively with consumers, families, carers, multidisciplinary teams, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison Officers, community organisations and external agencies to coordinate evidence-based care and improve health outcomes.

For more information about this role, please refer to the attached Role Description.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) evidence as required for your employment in accordance with legislation/government policy and Directives.
