Principal Engineer (Civil/Structural) - Major Infrastructure Program

Are you a highly experienced, RPEQ-certified Civil or Structural Engineer looking to shape the future of heavy vehicle access across the state's road network?

We are partnering with a major government transport authority to secure a Principal Engineer to support the critical delivery of the Structures and Network Access Program (SNAP).
About the Role

As outlined in the "STRI26746 Principal Engineer - SNAP - NAAS Position Description.pdf", this role is offered as an initial 12-month contract, with four additional 3-month extension options available subject to project requirements.

Operating primarily out of Brisbane (with intrastate/interstate travel as required), you will play a crucial role in validating engineering-based access decisions and supporting the transformation of heavy vehicle access arrangements, including the National Automated Access System (NAAS).

Your core responsibilities will include:

Driving the development and implementation of a new access regime for Class 1 oversize overmass vehicles.

Providing specialist engineering governance and technical advice to ensure safe, efficient, and nationally consistent access outcomes.

Analysing Bridge Information System data to advise on asset performance, lifecycle management,



and network risk.

Leading strategic asset management improvements, including contributing to policy development and technical standards.

Establishing cooperative relationships with key stakeholders, including the NHVR, local governments, and industry bodies.

Providing technical leadership, mentoring, and professional guidance to a high-performing project team.
About You

You are a strategic thinker and technical expert capable of navigating complex governance and program issues with sound professional judgment.

To be considered for this role, you must possess the following mandatory requirements:

A four-year Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Civil or Structural) or Engineers Australia accepted equivalent.

Current registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) in Civil or Structural Engineering.

A strong understanding of asset and project management, heavy vehicle policies, or prior knowledge of the NAAS will be highly regarded.
