About the role

Join the Bacteriology, Mycology and Parasitology team at the Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory (VIDRL), based at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity. This full-time, ongoing role will see you perform specialised traditional and molecular diagnostic testing across a broad range of clinically significant pathogens, including sexually transmitted infections.

You'll contribute to research and development, quality laboratory practices and the delivery of rapid-turnaround diagnostic services supporting hospitals, clinics and public health services across Victoria and beyond.

Key Accountabilities

- Perform traditional and molecular diagnostic testing across Bacteriology, Mycology and Parasitology, contributing to research and development activities.
- Accurately interpret, validate, document and communicate diagnostic test results.
- Perform quality control procedures and monitor reagents to maintain the accuracy and quality of laboratory testing.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of laboratory results in accordance with laboratory and quality requirements.
- Work collaboratively within the laboratory team,



adhering to VIDRL procedures, quality systems, PC2 requirements and relevant regulatory standards.

About You

- A Degree in Science or equivalent qualification.
- Extensive experience in Bacteriology, Mycology and Parasitology, including standard molecular biology techniques.
- Demonstrated diagnostic and/or research experience, with strong problem-solving and lateral thinking skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and manage competing priorities.
- Understanding of laboratory accreditation and compliance requirements, including NATA, OGTR, DAAF and NPAAC, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
