About the Role
We are seeking a Disability Support Worker to support a female client in Holmview, QLD. This is a casual position providing both in-home and community-based support.
The client has an acquired brain injury as her primary diagnosis, with secondary diagnoses of anxiety, depression, and ADHD.
The client has a youthful personality and preferences and responds best to a relaxed, friendly, and supportive approach. She does not respond well to overly formal or directive communication. Instead, she thrives when support is offered in a respectful and encouraging way.
Swearing may be part of her natural communication style and should not automatically be interpreted as aggression. The successful worker will be able to remain calm, respectful, and professional while supporting her individual communication style.
Your role will involve supporting her independence while providing encouragement and guidance in a way that respects her personality, preferences, and communication needs.
About You
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- Willingness and ability to travel to Holmview, QLD
- Availability for casual shifts and flexibility to meet client needs
- Confidence engaging with clients who may display verbal aggression or non-compliant behaviours
- Patience and empathy when supporting a client who communicates softly and may require additional time to respond
- Ability to maintain a relaxed, friendly, and non-formal approach
- Ability to provide support without being overly directive
- Comfort working with clients who may use swearing as part of their communication style
- Resilience, patience, and self-assurance
- A genuine passion for supporting individuals with additional needs using a person-centred approach
- Experience supporting individuals with:
- Acquired brain injury
- Anxiety and depression
- ADHD
- At least 2 years of Disability Support experience is preferred
Essential Requirements
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Working With Children Check
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment checks
- Current First Aid (HLTAID011) and CPR (HLTAID009) certificates
- Valid Australian Driver’s Licence
- Reliable vehicle with comprehensive insurance and current registration
- Minimum Certificate III or IV in Disability, Individual Support, Aged Care, or a relevant qualification
