Darwin Ship Repair Pty Ltd (DSR) is a member of the Paspaley Pearls Group. With six dry repair berths and three wet berths, the PME shipyard covers all facets of ship repair, engineering and maintenance and is Darwin’s leading provider.
We are seeking a Finance Officer who is detail-oriented and can work autonomously. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day financial operations, supporting operations and project control, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.
About the Role
As the Finance Officer, you will take ownership of core accounting and financial processes, including bookkeeping, reconciliations, reporting, and compliance. Working with the General Manager and Business Support Team, you will play a key role in maintaining financial control and supporting business performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately record and process daily business transactions in a timely manner
- Perform monthly general ledger reconciliations and journal postings
- Review and release weekly supplier payments and support accounts payable processes
- Monitor and manage accounts receivable, ensuring timely collection of debts
- Prepare job cost reports for customer progress claims and invoice once approved
- Review and reconcile payroll and support payroll processing when required
- Deliver monthly and quarterly management reports, highlighting variances to budget
- Liaise with external auditors and group accounting to respond to audit queries
- Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register
- Assist with capital expenditure requests, annual budgets, and forecasts
- Provide BAS, Fuel Credit, FBT, and income tax data to the relevant stakeholders
- Support compliance reporting to the ATO
About You
You are a finance professional with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities. You are a self-starter who can work autonomously and take ownership of your key responsibilities. DSR is undergoing a period of transformation, and you will be someone who can deal with ambiguity and can be flexible in their approach.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a similar finance or accounting role
- Strong working knowledge of general ledger, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Experience with payroll, accounts payable and receivable
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to analyse financial data and identify and explain variances
- Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Office suite
