About Us
The Chutney Bar Inverloch is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Chef to lead kitchen operations in our busy and well-established restaurant. Located at 16A Williams Street, Inverloch VIC 3996, The Chutney Bar Inverloch is a local hospitality venue specialising in authentic Indian cuisine. The restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring traditional Indian dishes prepared using fresh ingredients, including tandoori specialities, vegetarian dishes, seafood, lamb, chicken, beef, biryani and traditional Indian breads.
The restaurant provides dine-in, takeaway and online ordering services, catering to local residents, visitors and customers throughout the Inverloch area. The menu reflects a broad range of traditional Indian flavours and cooking styles, with a strong focus on consistency, quality and authentic preparation.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified and passionate culinary professional with proven experience in Indian cuisine and strong kitchen leadership skills. The successful Chef will contribute to the day-to-day kitchen operations, maintain food quality and consistency, oversee food preparation and cooking, and support the efficient operation of the kitchen in a busy hospitality environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Plan, organise and prepare a diverse range of Indian dishes in accordance with established recipes, menu requirements and The Chutney Bar Inverloch’s quality standards.
• Prepare and cook a variety of dishes, including tandoori entrées, vegetarian dishes, seafood, lamb, chicken, beef, rice, biryani and tandoori breads using traditional cooking techniques.
• Prepare,
season and cook food using appropriate methods, including tandoor cooking, grilling, frying, simmering and baking.
• Assist with planning and developing menus in consultation with management, considering customer preferences, seasonal ingredients and food costs.
• Estimate food requirements and assist with ordering supplies to ensure sufficient ingredients are available for daily operations.
• Monitor the quality of ingredients and prepared dishes to maintain consistency in taste, presentation and portion control.
• Ensure dishes are prepared and presented consistently in accordance with established recipes and cooking procedures.
• Coordinate food preparation and cooking activities during busy dine-in, takeaway and online-order service periods.
• Communicate with management and kitchen staff regarding food preparation requirements to ensure smooth service.
• Demonstrate cooking techniques and provide guidance to kitchen staff on food preparation and cooking procedures.
• Assist in training and supervising cooks and kitchen hands in food preparation, cooking and protected kitchen practices.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements, including proper food handling and storage.
• Monitor stock levels, check deliveries and assist with storing food and kitchen supplies while minimising wastage.
• Estimate food and labour requirements and assist management with monitoring kitchen costs and efficient use of resources.
• Maintain kitchen equipment, cooking utensils and food preparation areas in a clean, safe and serviceable condition.
• Work closely with front-of-house staff to coordinate food preparation and ensure timely service to customers.
• Cater to reasonable customer requests and dietary requirements while maintaining food quality and the restaurant’s culinary standards.
To be successful in this role, it is essential you have:
• A Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent recognised culinary qualification, with a minimum of one year relevant Chef experience in a professional commercial kitchen.
• Demonstrated experience in preparing and cooking Indian cuisine, including curries, tandoori dishes, rice, biryani, breads and vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.
• Strong knowledge of traditional Indian cooking techniques, including tandoor cooking, grilling, frying, simmering and baking.
• Proven ability to plan and organise food preparation, maintain food quality and ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
• Strong communication, teamwork and kitchen leadership skills, including the ability to guide junior staff and coordinate effectively with kitchen and front-of-house teams.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a busy commercial kitchen, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining consistent food quality, presentation and customer satisfaction.
