GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER - Canberra
- Principal / Associate level
- This is not a role where a Principal Engineer simply becomes another senior technical resource in a large team.
- An established Australian geotechnical consultancy is strengthening its Canberra operation and is seeking an Associate to Principal-level Geotechnical Engineer who wants greater influence over projects, clients and technical outcomes.
- Great salary: $200-$185K - depending on experience
The attraction is the breadth and complexity of the work.
- Projects could involve deep basements and excavations, major foundations, ground improvement, slope stability, retaining structures, transport and civil infrastructure, water infrastructure and complex construction-phase geotechnical challenges.
- The work ranges from significant Canberra developments through to major infrastructure assignments across the ACT and NSW.
- At this level, you will have the opportunity to influence how projects are approached and delivered – working directly with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams rather than being confined to a narrow technical function.
- The business has an established Canberra presence, supported by operations in Sydney and Brisbane. This provides the resources and project reach of a broader consultancy while retaining the accessibility, autonomy and technical focus of a specialist geotechnical practice.
What Could Make the Move Worthwhile?
- Genuine technical influence and autonomy
- Direct relationships with clients and key decision-makers
- Diverse projects rather than one repetitive project stream
- Opportunity to mentor and develop engineers
- Greater involvement in project strategy and commercial decisions
- Opportunity to contribute to business development and future growth
- An established Canberra operation rather than a start-up office
- Scope to progress beyond purely technical project delivery
What Are We Looking For?
- You will ideally already be operating at Associate or Principal level, although a particularly robust Senior Geotechnical Engineer ready to make that progression would also be considered.
- CPEng accreditation is essential, together with substantial Australian geotechnical consultancy experience.
- Your technical background could include deep excavations, foundations, ground improvement, slope stability, retaining structures, advanced numerical modelling, transport infrastructure and construction-phase support.
- Just as importantly, you will need the ability to lead people, communicate confidently with clients, manage projects and exercise sound engineering judgement.
- This opportunity is aimed at an experienced geotechnical engineer who has already established the technical credentials and now wants more influence over projects, clients and where their career goes next.
Note: Only Australian / New Zealand applicants with local experience are encouraged to apply. Unfortunately, we are unable to assist applicants requiring sponsorship.
