We are currently seeking two experienced Fitter & Machinists to join the Roll Shop Maintenance team at BlueScope Steel Port Kembla.

About the Role

n

The Roll Shop plays an important role in maintaining and reconditioning the large rolls used within the steel manufacturing process more specifically Coil/Strip. You will work as part of a small, highly skilled crew responsible for returning these critical components back to service. The work is predominantly performed on a day shift roster, with opportunities potentially available to move onto a rostered shift pattern, for those looking for additional flexibility and earning potential. You'll be working alongside a small, skilled crew where everyone plays an important role in achieving secure, quality outcomes.

Your duties will include:

- Operating large CNC‐controlled lathes and machining equipment
n
- Milling, machining and reconditioning used steel rolls back to precise specifications
n
- Operating panel‐controlled automated grinding machines
n




- Greasing, maintaining and inspecting chucks, bearings and associated equipment
n
- Operating overhead cranes to safely move large rolls and components
n
- Performing mechanical fitting, maintenance and general workshop duties
n
- Working to strict quality, safety and production standards
n
- Maintaining a clean, safe and organised work area
n

What We're Looking For

n

We are looking for someone who:

n

n
- Holds a recognised Engineering - Mechanical C3 or Fitting and Machining C3 qualification
n
- Has experience operating lathes, grinders or other heavy machining equipment
n
- Has strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
n
- Takes genuine pride in the quality of their workmanship
n
- Understands the importance of precision and following established procedures
n
- Is safety-focused and works well within a small team
n
- Is reliable, consistent and willing to learn site‐specific equipment and processes
n
- Enjoys a structured work environment where processes are clearly defined
n

n

Experience within steel manufacturing, heavy industry, mining or other heavy engineering environments will be highly regarded.

n

You don't need to know every aspect of the specialised equipment from day one. Training will be provided on the site's automated overhead cranes and panel-operated grinding machinery, allowing you to develop the specific skills required for the Roll Shop.
