School Based Apprenticeships & VETiS Pathways Coordinator
Gold Coast Trades College | Gold Coast & Ipswich Region
Help young people turn an interest in trades into a real career.
Gold Coast Trades College is looking for an energetic, relationship-driven High School Apprenticeships & VETiS Pathways Coordinator to join our growing team.
This role is all about connecting high school students with real trade career opportunities - from VET in Schools (VETiS), pre-apprenticeship and trade pathway programs through to school-based apprenticeships and traineeships.
You’ll work closely with schools, students, parents, employers, apprenticeship providers and industry partners to help young people understand their options, get exposure to industry and take their first step into a trade.
If you love getting out from behind a desk, building relationships and helping young people find their direction, we’d love to hear from you.
About the Role
No two days will look the same.
You could be:
- Visiting high schools and meeting with Careers Advisors, VET Coordinators and students
- Promoting GCTC’s trade pathway and VETiS programs
- Speaking with students and parents about apprenticeship and training options
- Connecting school students with employers offering school-based apprenticeships
- Building relationships with construction, automotive, electrical and plumbing employers
- Coordinating school information sessions, expos, Try-a-Trade activities and industry events
- Supporting students transitioning from school into apprenticeships or further training
- Following up enquiries and helping students move from I’m interested in a trade to actually getting started
- Working closely with GCTC trainers, student services and industry teams
- Developing strong partnerships with schools across the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Ipswich regions
- Tracking student enquiries, referrals, enrolments and apprenticeship outcomes
- Representing Gold Coast Trades College at school and industry events
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is confident, approachable and genuinely passionate about helping young people succeed.
You may already have experience in:

- School-based apprenticeships and traineeships
- Apprenticeship services
- Careers or pathways
- Employment services
- Youth engagement
- Business development
- Registered Training Organisations
- Construction or trade industry engagement
- School or education partnerships
You don’t necessarily need to come from a traditional education background.
What matters most is your ability to connect with people, build trust and turn conversations into opportunities for students.
You’ll ideally bring:
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Confidence presenting to students, parents, schools and employers
- Strong organisation and follow-up skills
- A good understanding of apprenticeships, traineeships or vocational education
- The ability to work independently and manage a busy territory
- A positive, proactive attitude
- Confidence networking and developing new relationships
- A genuine interest in the construction and trade industries
- Current driver licence and willingness to travel between schools and industry partners
Experience working with Queensland schools, VET pathways, SBATs or apprenticeship programs would be highly regarded.
Why Gold Coast Trades College?
Gold Coast Trades College isn’t about training people just to gain a certificate.
We’re focused on creating real pathways into real jobs.
Our students learn through practical training, industry exposure, employer engagement, site experiences and programs designed around what employers actually need.
You’ll be joining a team that is passionate about:
- Getting more young people into trades
- Building stronger connections between schools and industry
- Creating genuine employment outcomes
- Supporting employers to grow their future workforce
- Delivering practical, industry-led training
- Doing things differently from a traditional training organisation
This is a outstanding opportunity for someone who wants the freedom to build relationships, develop new ideas and make this portfolio their own.
Ready to help build the next generation of tradies?
We’d love to hear from people who understand that sometimes a single conversation, employer introduction or opportunity can completely change the direction of a young person’s career.
