Your Graduate Year at Avina
n
Starting your first role as an Occupational Therapist is a big transition. Our 12-month Graduate Program is designed to give you the structure, clinical support and practical experience to build confidence gradually rather than expecting you to know everything from day one.
n
Your graduate journey begins with structured onboarding and caseload ramp-up, giving you time to learn our systems, understand the NDIS environment, develop your clinical skills and gradually transition into independent practice.
n
Throughout your first year, you'll be supported through:
n
n
- A structured 9-week onboarding and gradual caseload ramp-up
n
- Initial shadowing with experienced clinicians
n
- Reverse shadowing and supported sessions as you begin seeing clients independently
n
- Regular discipline-specific clinical supervision
n
- Support from experienced Senior Occupational Therapists and clinical leaders
n
- Discipline-specific graduate learning and development
n
- Ongoing multidisciplinary learning sessions throughout your graduate year
n
- Case consultation, report review and clinical feedback
n
- Peer learning and opportunities to connect with other graduates
n
- Access to Communities of Practice and broader professional development opportunities
n
- Regular opportunities to provide feedback and help shape the Graduate Program
n
n
What You'll Learn
n
Your graduate year will help you build both the clinical and practical skills needed to work confidently within community and disability practice.
n
Depending on your caseload and location, you'll have opportunities to develop your skills across areas such as:
n
n
- Functional assessments
n
- Capacity building and goal-based intervention
n
- Daily living and independence
n
- Sensory, motor and emotional regulation
n
- Assistive technology and equipment
n
- Working with families, carers and support networks
n
- NDIS documentation and report writing
n
- Clinical risk and secure practice
n
- Working effectively within a multidisciplinary team
n
n
What You'll Be Doing
n
You'll support participants across home, school, clinic and community environments, delivering strengths-based, person-centred Occupational Therapy.
n
As your confidence and capability develop, you'll gradually take greater ownership of your caseload while continuing to have access to supervision, mentoring and clinical support.
n
