James Neil Medical
Toowoomba Regional
Job Description
James Neil Medical is a long-established general practice on Ruthven Street in South Toowoomba, part of the Bernoth Centre alongside pathology and pharmacy. We are a bulk billing practice with a team of GPs, GP registrars and practice nurses, and we look after a broad community — young families, older patients, and a significant refugee and migrant population, particularly Kurdish and Arabic speaking.
n
We are establishing psychology as a new service within the practice. This is a chance to build something from the beginning inside an established clinic, with the reception, billing, booking and clinical systems already running around you.

n
The work
n
You would carry your own caseload of adults, children, and adolescents if that suits you, working across the presentations that come through general practice — anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, chronic illness adjustment, and relationship and family stress.
n
You would work alongside GPs who know their patients well and who are on site to talk to.
Care planning happens in the same building rather than across a referral gap, and you would have direct input into how the psychology service is set up — appointment lengths, session structure, intake process, and how referrals flow.
n
The role is hybrid. Consulting rooms are available on site, and telehealth from home for the remainder. How that splits is something we would work out with you.
n
Who we are looking for
n
n
- General or Clinical registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA, with no restrictions on practice
n
- Medicare provider eligibility, or eligible to apply
n
- Comfortable working independently while being part of a wider clinical team
n
- Interested in general practice settings and the range of presentations that come with them
n
- Experience with interpreters, or interest in working with refugee and migrant communities, is valued but not required
n
n
Fully registered applicants only — we are not set up to provide board-approved supervision for provisional psychologists at this stage.
n
What we offer
n
n
- Employee or contractor — genuinely flexible, and we are happy to discuss which suits you
n
nn
- Hybrid working — consulting rooms on site, telehealth from home
n
- No admin load — reception, bookings, billing and Medicare claiming are handled
n
- A voice in how it is built — this is a new service, not an existing model you slot into
n
- CPD support and time allowance, discussed at offer
n
- Independent practice — non-corporate, locally owned and run
n
n
Location
n
Toowoomba is a regional city of around 140,000, ninety minutes west of Brisbane, with a full range of schools, housing that is achievable, and no commute worth complaining about. The practice is on Ruthven Street with parking on site.
