The Safe Step is partnering with a respected not for profit community services organisation to appoint an experienced WHS Manager to lead and stabilise a critical function during a period of organisational renewal and growth.
This organisation has been supporting communities across NSW, through a range of residential and community based services. Under recent executive leadership, significant investment is being made in people, culture, governance and safety, creating an opportunity for an experienced leader to shape the future direction of the WHS function. Initially offered as a contract engagement, this opportunity may move into a permanent leadership position for the right individual.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of HR, you will assume responsibility for the organisation's WHS and Injury Management functions. This is a highly visible leadership role that requires more than simply maintaining compliance. You will identify opportunities for improvement and develop a practical roadmap that increases safety maturity, strengthens governance and enhances support provided to operational leaders across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the organisation's WHS and Injury Management functions.
- Complete a gap analysis of systems, processes, governance and capability.
- Develop and implement a practical WHS and wellbeing improvement roadmap.
- Strengthen WHS governance, frameworks, policies and reporting processes.
- Oversee incident management, investigations and corrective actions.
- Lead Workers Compensation and Return to Work programs.
- Build stronger engagement with operational leaders and frontline employees.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives across safety, wellbeing and injury management.




- Develop a small team capability through coaching, mentoring and leadership support.

You will bring:

- Proven experience in a senior WHS, Safety, HSE or Risk leadership role.
- Strong understanding of Australian WHS legislation, governance and contemporary safety management systems.
- Experience managing Workers Compensation and Injury Management programs.
- Strong capability in incident investigations, risk management and audit processes.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
- Ability to provide executive level reporting, insights and recommendations.
- A strategic mindset combined with a practical and pragmatic approach.
- Experience within community services, not for profit, health, disability, aged care, human services or similarly complex environments will be highly regarded.
