About the role

Fernie Racing is seeking a dedicated and passionate Trackwork Rider/Stable Hand/Assistant Trainer to join our team on a full-time basis in Ascot, WA 6104. This is an exciting opportunity to work within the equestrian racing industry, combining hands-on stable management with trackwork riding responsibilities. You will play a crucial role in the daily care, training, and preparation of our thoroughbred racehorses, contributing directly to their performance and wellbeing. This position offers the chance to develop your skills in horse racing whilst working alongside experienced professionals in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities

- Performing trackwork on racehorses, including galloping, schooling, and conditioning work under instruction from the trainer

- Providing essential daily secure care, including feeding, watering, mucking out, and general yard maintenance

- Grooming and tacking up horses in preparation for trackwork and racing

- Assisting with horse health and welfare monitoring, including reporting any signs of injury or illness to senior staff

- Maintaining and cleaning horse equipment, saddles, bridles, and other tack

- Supporting the trainer with horse preparation and race day logistics

- Assisting with the training of younger or less experienced staff members

- Following all safety protocols and welfare standards in accordance with racing industry regulations

- Contributing to the general cleanliness and organisation of the stable yard and facilities

What we're looking for

- Proven experience as a trackwork rider, stable hand, or in a similar role within horse racing or equestrian facilities

- A strong, confident riding ability with experience on thoroughbred racehorses

- Excellent horsemanship skills and a genuine passion for horse welfare and care

- Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual labour in all weather conditions

- Reliability, punctuality,



and a strong work ethic; willingness to work early morning hours

- Knowledge of horse health, nutrition, and common stable management practices

- The ability to take instruction and work effectively as part of a team

- A commitment to safety and adherence to industry standards and regulations

- Desirable: Experience in horse training assistance, knowledge of racing procedures, or relevant equestrian qualifications
