At James Cook University (JCU), our HR team is building something exciting, and we are seeking an enthusiastic, agile and customer-focused Human Resources Advisor to join our HR Partnerships team.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of a team designed with people at its centre. You will help shape a modern, responsive and trusted HR service that supports leaders and staff across the University and delivers a seamless experience at every stage of the employee lifecycle.
As a trusted member of the team, you will provide practical, accurate and contemporary advice across a diverse range of people matters, including employee relations, performance, organisational change, industrial interpretation, job design and workforce planning.
You will also contribute to talent acquisition activities for allocated portfolios. Working in partnership with leaders and the broader HR team, you will provide advice and support across recruitment planning, attraction, selection and onboarding, helping JCU deliver compliant processes and an engaging customer and candidate experience.

What you’ll do
In this varied role, you will:
- provide timely and accurate advice to leaders and staff on contemporary HR practices, employment legislation, JCU’s Enterprise Agreement, policies and procedures
- coach and support leaders to effectively lead, manage and support their people across the employee lifecycle
- provide advice and case management support relating to employee relations, performance, workplace matters and organisational change
- assist leaders with workforce and recruitment planning, job analysis, job design and position evaluation
- support recruitment activities, including attraction strategies, selection processes, and pre-employment requirements and onboarding, whilst promoting a positive and inclusive candidate experience.
- use workforce and recruitment data, reporting and analytics to support informed decision-making
- build productive relationships across JCU and work collaboratively with HR colleagues and specialist teams
- develop and facilitate information sessions and training on contemporary HR practices and employee entitlements
- contribute ideas and practical solutions to continuously improve HR services, systems and processes.
What you’ll bring
You will have:
- relevant human resources qualifications and demonstrated experience providing generalist HR advice within a complex organisation
- in-depth knowledge of contemporary HR practices, employment legislation and industrial instruments
- experience advising on employee relations matters, HR case management, recruitment, job analysis, job design and evaluation
- experience supporting recruitment and selection processes and delivering positive customer and candidate outcomes
- the ability to interpret and clearly explain legislation, industrial instruments, policies and procedures
- strong relationship-building, communication, coaching and influencing skills
- excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
- experience using HR or e-recruitment systems, reporting and data to support decisions and service improvement
- a collaborative, adaptable and customer-focused approach.
Experience facilitating HR training or information sessions would be highly regarded.
