About TLH

TLH started in 2021 with one truck and no outside funding. Today we run a fleet of 18 trucks moving building equipment and industrial steel for clients like Acrow, Kingflex and BSP across Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and the interstate corridors between them. We're a small, tight crew of around 20 people, and we build a lot of our own tooling in-house — including the fleet maintenance and inspection system you'll be working in every day.

The role

This is a hands-on diesel mechanic role with ownership. You'll be the person who keeps a working fleet on the road — diagnosing, repairing and servicing Hino rigids and Mercedes-Benz Actros MP4 prime movers, with some Caterpillar C15-powered gear in the mix — and you'll run the workshop schedule around it. You won't be handed a job card by a service advisor; you'll talk to the driver, decide what the truck needs, book it in, order the parts and get it done.

What you'll be doing

Workshop (most of your week)

- Diagnose and repair across the fleet — engine, driveline, suspension, brakes, electrical, exhaust/AdBlue aftertreatment

- Use XENTRY on the Actros fleet and Hino diagnostics to read, interpret and clear faults properly — not just reset and hope

- Scheduled servicing and inspections to the maintenance program (NHVR Basic Fatigue/Maintenance Management standards)

- Suspension and chassis work — bushes, shocks, airbags, spring packs

- Trailer electrical and ABS/EBS fault-finding

- Roadside and off-site breakdown response when a truck goes down on a run

- Welding and fabrication for tray,

Fleet coordination (the rest)

- Take calls from drivers, work out what's actually wrong, and decide on the spot whether it's drive-on, book-in or pull-over

- Plan the weekly workshop schedule with the VIC operations manager so trucks come off the road when it hurts least

- Raise and close job cards in our in-house maintenance system (tablet-based, photos attached, no paper)

- Order parts, manage supplier relationships and keep pricing sharp (we buy through Capricorn)

- Keep maintenance spend inside budget and flag anything big before it happens

What we're looking for

- Trade-qualified heavy vehicle / diesel mechanic (Cert III Heavy Commercial Vehicle or equivalent)

- Solid experience on Japanese and European trucks — Hino and Mercedes-Benz ideal; XENTRY experience is a real advantage

- Confident with electronic diagnostics and contemporary emissions systems (SCR/AdBlue, DPF)

- Can work unsupervised and make the call — you'll be the senior mechanic on site

- HR or HC licence (or willing to get one — we'll support it) so you can move and road-test trucks

- Welding/fabrication skills (MIG/stick) strongly preferred

- Clear communicator who's happy dealing with drivers, suppliers and the ops team all day
