An experienced veterinary nurse is sought to lead the General Practice nursing team at a purpose-built veterinary hospital in Melbourne’s inner east. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll remain closely involved in clinical nursing while mentoring and supporting the team around you.
There’s plenty of variety on offer, with a caseload spanning routine vaccinations, desexing and preventative healthcare through to advanced diagnostics, complex surgeries and in-depth medical investigations. The general practice is co-located with emergency and specialist services, providing an engaging clinical environment with access to up-to-date, state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.
This is a clinical leadership role rather than a practice management position. You’ll work alongside the team across hospital and surgical nursing, nurse consultations and assisting veterinarians during consultations, while providing day-to-day guidance and helping less experienced nurses build their skills and confidence.
The practice is looking for someone who can lead by example, communicate well and bring people together. Previous leadership experience would be highly regarded, but just as important is your ability to earn the respect of your colleagues through strong clinical skills,
good communication and a willingness to work alongside them.
The successful candidate will hold a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology, and have strong veterinary nursing experience with a high level of clinical competence. You’ll also need strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, excellent attention to detail and a collaborative approach, together with a commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care.
The position is full-time, working four to five days per week. Hours are predominantly weekdays, with approximately one in four weekends as part of the standard roster. Remuneration is commensurate with experience, with ongoing opportunities for professional development and career progression.
The employer is willing to assist with a work visa (employer sponsorship) for suitable overseas candidates.
Melbourne’s inner east offers plenty to enjoy outside work, with cafés, restaurants, shopping and green spaces throughout the area, along with convenient access to the wider city. It’s a well-connected part of Melbourne for those wanting the benefits of city life without working right in the CBD.
