We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Business Development Manager to join our Leadership Group and play a key role in shaping the future direction and growth of the business.
This is a senior strategic role for someone who understands the construction industry, knows how to build strong client and stakeholder relationships, and has a proven ability to turn opportunities into successful projects.
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, you will provide strategic input into business development, marketing and growth initiatives while leading the management of our business development pipeline and project opportunity conversion.
The chance
As Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for identifying and developing new opportunities, strengthening existing client relationships and positioning the business to secure a strong forward workload.
You will work closely with the Executive Management Team, Estimating, Design and site-based teams to ensure our business development strategy is aligned with market conditions, organisational objectives and our project delivery capabilities.
Key areas of responsibility will include:
- Developing and implementing business development strategies aligned with the company's business plan.
- Identifying target sectors, projects, clients and emerging market opportunities.
- Building and maintaining long-term relationships with key clients, business partners and industry stakeholders.
- Developing and proactively managing the business development pipeline.
- Leading the development of win strategies for key opportunities.
- Driving strong EOI and tender outcomes and achieving high levels of project conversion.
- Providing market intelligence and strategic recommendations to Executive Management.
- Strengthening the company's external brand and market position.
- Developing and delivering client engagement and marketing initiatives.
- Providing leadership during EOI and tender processes where required.
- Working collaboratively with project delivery teams to understand project performance and strengthen client relationships.
- Contributing to innovation, value-management solutions and industry-leading tender submissions.
About you
We are looking for a commercially astute business development professional with significant experience within the construction or related property sector.
You will ideally bring:
- Proven experience developing opportunities from initial lead through to successful project award and close-out.
- Experience in business development, project delivery and/or pre-construction.
- A demonstrated ability to build and maintain a strong business pipeline with high conversion rates.
- Strong commercial acumen and an understanding of how to structure compelling offers and manage commercial risk.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management capability.
- A strategic approach to problem solving and business development.
- The confidence and credibility to influence clients, industry stakeholders and internal executive management.
- Strong leadership capability and the ability to bring people together around a common objective.
A degree qualification in Engineering, Building, Business or Marketing would be highly regarded.
What you'll bring
This role requires more than simply generating leads. You will understand the commercial drivers of the business and be able to identify where the best opportunities lie, develop compelling strategies to win them and build the relationships required to convert them.
You will be a confident influencer and negotiator who can establish trust, identify mutually beneficial outcomes and navigate complex commercial situations. You will also bring strong strategic problem-solving skills and the ability to turn challenging or ambiguous situations into opportunities.
Most importantly, you will be a strategic leader who leads by example, communicates a clear vision and knows where to focus time and investment to deliver the greatest impact.
Why join us?
This is an opportunity to take a genuine leadership position within the business and have a direct influence on its future growth.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Work directly with Executive Management on business strategy.
- Influence the sectors, clients and projects the business pursues.
- Build and strengthen relationships with key industry stakeholders.
- Lead the business development pipeline and project conversion strategy.
- Shape the company's market presence and external brand.
- Contribute to innovation and the ongoing development of the business.
- Make a meaningful contribution to the company's long-term success.
