About the role

ENTEC Consultants is seeking a Senior Hydraulic Designer to join our Building Services team.

This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who can take a hydraulic services package from concept through to construction, make sound design decisions and ensure documentation is coordinated and practical.

You will work alongside our Engineering team and maintain close interface with the Revit design team while leading coordination, client and contractor discussions, technical reviews and site support.

About ENTEC

ENTEC Consultants is a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy providing Building Services and Civil Engineering since 2022.

Our projects span across industrial, commercial, residential, health, aged care, education and retail sectors. No day is the same.

Our senior technical team remain involved from early planning and design through to construction and commissioning & handover. This means you will see how your design decisions perform after the drawings are issued.

What ‘senior’ means at ENTEC

We are looking for someone who can take ownership of an assigned hydraulic services package, understand what needs to be delivered and progress it with a high level of independence, to the high standard of detail which ENTEC are known for.

You should be comfortable resolving routine technical and coordination matters, representing the business in project and client meetings and raising higher-risk decisions early. Senior does not mean stepping away from design; this role remains technically hands-on, with access to experienced consultants and engineers when specialist input or review is required.

Experience in mentoring junior and intermediate staff and assisting them with their development is desirable but not mandatory.

Key responsibilities

- Leading the design of sanitary plumbing and drainage, domestic hot and cold water, trade waste, rainwater, stormwater, recycled-water, gas,

hydrants and hose reels and associated site reticulation systems.

- Producing and coordinating hydraulic services design documentation.

- Preparing layouts, schematics, details, calculations, schedules, specifications and technical reports.

- Reviewing architectural, structural, civil and building-services information for clashes, service clearances, access constraints and constructability issues.

- Coordinating with clients, architects, project managers, contractors, authorities and other engineering disciplines.

- Leading or contributing to design meetings, coordination workshops and site inspections.

- Responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings and supporting commissioning, defects and project close-out.

- Managing assigned deliverables against scope, programme, fee and quality requirements, and raising missing information or design risks early.

- Providing practical guidance and technical feedback to junior and intermediate team members.

- Attending existing buildings and construction sites to confirm conditions, define scopes and refine designs.

What you will bring

- Eight or more years of Australian hydraulic building-services design experience.

- Experience in a building-services consultancy or similar project design environment.

- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and common BIM, coordination and document-review platforms.

- Strong working knowledge of the National Construction Code, AS/NZS 3500, AS/NZS 5601, AS2419, AS2441 and relevant authority requirements.

- Experience delivering coordinated hydraulic design packages from concept through to construction.

- A practical understanding of installation clearances, equipment access, pipe routes, testing, maintenance and constructability.

- The ability to interpret architectural, structural, civil and other building-services documentation.

- Explicit communication skills and the confidence to engage with clients, consultants, contractors and authorities.

- The ability to manage competing priorities and understand project scope, programme and quality requirements.

- Australian working rights and the ability to attend project sites.

A qualification in hydraulic services design, building design, drafting, plumbing or a related discipline would be highly regarded. A plumbing, drainage or gasfitting background, wet-fire design experience, or experience with AutoCAD, BIM 360 or Autodesk Revit would also be beneficial.

You do not need to have worked across every project sector or followed one career path. We are more interested in whether you can produce a coordinated package, explain your decisions, identify issues before they reach site and respond constructively to technical review.

Why ENTEC?

At ENTEC, senior technical people stay close to the work. You will have genuine autonomy over your own packages, direct access to a very experienced team of designers and engineers and visibility of projects from early design through to construction and handover.

The role suits someone who wants to remain technically hands-on while developing broader project leadership, client-facing and mentoring capability. Progression is based on the capability, judgement and confidence you demonstrate, with competitive remuneration aligned with your experience.

Please submit your CV and a summary of your hydraulic design experience, including the systems, project sectors and stages of delivery you have worked across to ••••@entec.com.au
