Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health service.
Servicing the communities of Cape York, with the main office is located in Cairns, Apunipima delivers public health care, and social and emotional well-being care, to community members.
Being a part of the team at Apunipima means helping us deliver essential services as well as building capacity in communities to manage their own health care needs.

About the role
The Registered Nurse – Cancer Care is responsible for supporting clients and their families to navigate cancer diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the role delivers comprehensive nursing and cancer care services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of Cape York.
This includes the provision of holistic primary health care, health education, screening and early detection, and the effective management of cancer care.
The position also provides clinical support and contributes to capacity building within the team.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
Degree qualification in Nursing
Current registration with the Australian Health Practice Registration Authority (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse Division 1
Queensland Immunisation Endorsement,



or willingness to work toward and obtain the endorsement within a specified timeframe
Current Queensland Drivers Licence '
Australian Federal Police National Police Check
Extensive experience as a Practice Nurse/Registered Nurse in Primary Health Care, with advanced clinical problem-solving skills and the ability to deliver high-quality patient care.
Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate complex client care across the Primary Health Care continuum.
Strong knowledge of contemporary nursing legislation, standards, policies and procedures, with proven compliance in infection control and cold chain management requirements.
Advanced communication, consultation, negotiation and teamwork skills, with the ability to support holistic care, facilitate change and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
Understanding of the historical and contemporary issues that impact on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and their communities, particularly in Cape York.
Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with community protocols and customs.




Demonstrated understanding of the principles of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community control.
Must be willing and have the ability to travel in Cape York either by light aircraft or 4WD as required.
