Responsibilities
Build, maintain, and scale production search systems handling hundreds of millions of documents globally.
Contribute to Xero’s large-scale search platform rebuild and future search capabilities.
Maintain cluster performance and reliability at 99.9% uptime.
Contribute to search-specific and generalist software engineering work, including raising and reviewing pull requests.
Lead engineering projects and collaborate with engineering, product, infrastructure, and ingestion-platform teams.
Work effectively with distributed colleagues across Australia and New Zealand.

Requirements
Strong experience in search engineering and operating production search systems at scale.
Solid software engineering and development fundamentals.




Ability to contribute to both search-specific and generalist engineering work.
High standards for code quality and code review.
Robust collaborative skills across engineering, product, and infrastructure teams.
Exposure to data or AI tooling is preferred but not required.
