Job Description
Plumbing Operations & Estimating Manager (Hybrid - Role)
n
Plumbing Operations & Estimating Manager
n
4-Day Work Week | Vehicle | Hybrid Office & On-Site Role | Leadership Opportunity
n
Laurence Plumbing Group
n
Are you an experienced maintenance plumber looking for the next step in your career - but don't necessarily want to give up being on the tools altogether?
n
Maybe you're already a Leading Hand, Supervisor or Estimator. Or perhaps you're an experienced maintenance plumber who has naturally become the person others turn to for advice, problem solving and getting jobs organised.
n
Laurence Plumbing Group is looking for the right person to take the next step with us.
n
We're looking for an experienced plumbing professional to join our team in a hybrid Operations, Estimating & On-Site role.
n
This is not purely an office job, and it's not simply another maintenance plumber position.
n
You will work across our operations, estimating and field teams - helping us quote work accurately, coordinate day-to-day operations, support our plumbers and clients, while still getting out on site and remaining actively involved in the technical side of the business.
n
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who wants to grow into a key leadership position within Laurence Plumbing Group.
n
About Laurence Plumbing Group
n
Laurence Plumbing Group is a well-established Melbourne plumbing business specialising in B2B commercial facilities plumbing maintenance, preventative maintenance and plumbing infrastructure services.
n
We work across Melbourne and Victoria supporting a broad range of commercial and facilities management clients.
n
We're proud of the reputation we've built for being reliable, professional and delivering quality outcomes - but we're equally proud of the team behind it.
n
Our philosophy is pretty simple:
n
Do what is right. Own what you do. Look after your team and your clients.
n
As the business continues to grow, we're looking for someone who shares those values and wants to help us shape the next stage of Laurence Plumbing Group.
n
The Role
n
This is a genuinely varied position combining operations, estimating, client communication and some hands-on plumbing work.
n
Your maintenance plumbing background will be extremely important.
n
You will understand what actually happens on site - how long jobs take, what materials are required, how to diagnose difficult faults, what can go wrong and, importantly, how to communicate that information clearly to both plumbers and clients.
n
While a significant part of the role will involve estimating, planning and coordinating works, you'll still be an active part of our field operations.
n
Depending on what's happening within the business, a typical week could include:
n
n
Reviewing incoming maintenance and project opportunities
n
Preparing estimates, quotations and detailed scopes of works
n
Reviewing site reports, photos and recommendations from our field team
n
Providing technical support to plumbers in the field
n
Assisting with scheduling and allocation of labour
n
Planning labour, materials, subcontractors and equipment with our office manager
n
Following up outstanding quotes and opportunities
n
Communicating directly with clients regarding proposed and ongoing works
n
Attending site meetings, inspections and pre-starts
n
Carrying out site inspections to accurately scope and quote complex works
n
Working on the tools when required, particularly on complex, technical or high-priority maintenance jobs
n
Attending emergency and reactive plumbing callouts when required
n
Supporting the team on larger or more challenging jobs
n
Assisting with fault finding and diagnosis on site
n
Stepping in to support field operations during busy periods
n
Reviewing completed works to ensure quality and profitability
n
Identifying opportunities for preventative maintenance and additional works
n
Working with management to improve systems and processes
n
Assisting with procurement and supplier relationships
n
Helping mentor and develop members of the plumbing team
n
Taking greater responsibility for day-to-day operations as you develop within the role
n
n
The balance between office and field work will change depending on the needs of the business.
n
Some days you'll be preparing quotes and coordinating the team. Other days you'll be boots-on-the-ground helping solve a difficult plumbing problem.
n
That's exactly how we want the role to work.
n
Who We're Looking For
n
We're not necessarily looking for someone who has spent the last ten years sitting behind a desk estimating plumbing projects.
n
We're looking for someone who understands plumbing because they've done it.
n
Ideally, you've spent significant time working in commercial and maintenance plumbing and you're ready to use that knowledge in a broader role - while still being happy to pull the tools out when the situation calls for it.
n
You might currently be a:
n
n
Senior Maintenance Plumber
n
Leading Hand
n
Plumbing Supervisor
n
Plumbing Estimator
n
Maintenance Supervisor
n
Service Manager
n
Operations Coordinator
n
n
Or you may simply be a very experienced plumber who's ready to take the next step in their career.
n
You will ideally bring:
n
n
Strong commercial and/or facilities maintenance plumbing experience
n
Current Victorian plumbing
registration/licensing
relevant to the role
n
Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills
n
Strong hands-on plumbing capability
n
A sound understanding of plumbing systems and compliance requirements
n
The ability to accurately estimate labour and materials
n
Good computer and administrative skills
n
Strong written communication and report-writing ability
n
Confidence communicating with clients, suppliers and tradespeople
n
Excellent organisation and time-management skills
n
Commercial awareness and an understanding that good work also needs to be profitable
n
The ability to prioritise multiple jobs and competing demands
n
A willingness to attend emergency and reactive works when required
n
A calm approach when things don't go exactly to plan
n
A genuine desire to support and develop other people
n
n
Most importantly, you will be someone who takes ownership.
n
If a client has an urgent issue, a plumber needs technical support or a job simply needs someone experienced to step in and get it sorted, you'll be comfortable taking the lead.
n
What We Can Offer You
n
We want this to be a role that someone can build a long‐term career around.
n
You'll receive:
n
n
4-day working week – enjoy a long weekend every week
n
Competitive salary package based on experience
n
Take-home company vehicle
n
Phone or phone allowance
n
Uniform
n
Ongoing training and professional development
n
Genuine leadership and career progression opportunities
n
A varied role combining office, site and hands‐on work
n
Flexible working arrangements where possible
n
Team activities.
n
Supportive, down‐to‐earth team environment
n
Autonomy to make decisions and improve how we operate
n
Direct involvement in the future growth of the business
n
n
We don't want someone to simply fill a position.
n
We're looking for someone who can become an key part of Laurence Plumbing Group and, over time, take greater ownership of our operations.
n
Why This Role Is Different
n
This is an opportunity to take everything you've learned as a plumber and use it to help lead the work - without completely leaving the tools behind.
n
You'll still have opportunities to work on site, diagnose problems and get involved in technically challenging jobs.
n
But you'll also start applying that experience more broadly - developing scopes, estimating work, supporting plumbers, coordinating jobs, communicating with clients and helping run the operation.
n
You'll have the opportunity to influence how we work, improve systems and processes, develop our team and help grow the maintenance side of the business.
n
It's a role for someone who can be just as comfortable talking to a client or preparing a quote as they are arriving on site and helping the team solve a problem.
n
And you'll do it while working a four-day week.
n
Location
n
Our office is located in Bayswater, Victoria, with our work predominantly across Melbourne and Victoria.
n
The role will involve a combination of office-based work, client meetings, site visits and hands‐on plumbing work.
n
Due to the nature of our maintenance business, there will also be a requirement to assist with emergency and after-hours callouts when required.
n
Ready for Your Next Step?
n
If you're an experienced maintenance plumber who's ready to take on more responsibility across operations, estimating and leadership - while still staying connected to the tools and the field - we'd like to hear from you.
n
You don't need to tick every box.
n
If you've got strong plumbing knowledge, good people skills, take pride in what you do and believe you can grow into this position, apply and have a conversation with us.
n
Tell us a little about yourself, your maintenance plumbing experience and why you're ready for the next stage of your career.
