About the Job:

Location: Sydney, Australia
n
Role Summary: We are looking for a Senior Rust Engineer to build high-performance, scalable backend systems for Prospecta's next-generation data infrastructure platform. This role requires strong expertise in production-grade Rust, async programming, and systems-level problem solving, along with the ability to independently drive complex technical solutions in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Must Have:
n
n
5+ years of software engineering experience in Java and at least 2+ years of hands-on production Rust development.
n
Strong expertise in asynchronous Rust programming using Tokio or similar frameworks.
n
Deep understanding of Rust memory ownership, borrowing, lifetimes, allocations, and buffer management.
n
Experience building and shipping production-grade distributed or high-performance backend systems.
n
Strong understanding of concurrency, backpressure handling, cancellation, streams, and async execution models.
n
Ability to independently solve technically ambiguous problems and deliver working solutions.
n
Strong debugging, problem-solving,



and performance optimization skills.
n
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
n
n
Valuable to Have:
n
n
Experience with high-throughput data processing systems or streaming architectures.
n
Familiarity with columnar data formats or large structured datasets.
n
Experience with gRPC in Rust.
n
Exposure to cloud platforms and data lakes storage services (AWS, Azure, GCP).
n
Understanding of query optimization concepts such as partitioning or predicate pushdown.
n
Experience working in enterprise SaaS or B2B product environments.
n
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and distributed systems architecture.
n
Prior experience mentoring engineers or contributing to technical leadership initiatives.

Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend systems using Rust/Java.

Build scalable and reliable asynchronous systems using concurrency patterns.

Optimize system throughput, latency, memory usage, and I/O performance for large-scale data processing workloads.

Develop robust APIs, internal libraries, and reusable engineering components.
n
Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical decision-making.

Analyze and improve memory allocation patterns, buffer ownership, and serialization performance.

Implement effective processing strategies for streaming and large structured datasets.
n
Ensure code quality, maintainability, and production readiness through testing, debugging, and code reviews.

Identify bottlenecks proactively and recommend scalable engineering solutions.
n
Work closely with cross-functional engineering and product teams to deliver solutions aligned with business goals.
n
Operate effectively in technically ambiguous environments and independently drive implementation approaches.
n
Contribute to engineering best practices, technical documentation, and knowledge sharing across the team.
n
Collaborate with distributed global teams while ensuring effective communication and delivery alignment.
