Senior Systems Engineer - Communications

We're seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer - Communications for a long-term contract opportunity within a large, highly regulated aviation and critical infrastructure workplace.
n
This is a senior, hands-on engineering role supporting mission-critical communications and telecommunications systems. You'll provide technical leadership across the full systems engineering lifecycle while helping ensure operational systems remain safe, reliable, secure and fit for purpose.

The Role
n
Working within a specialist engineering team, you'll be responsible for the technical implementation, sustainment and enhancement of critical communications systems, including voice switching,
telecommunications,
control and monitoring technologies.
n
Your responsibilities will include:
n
n
Lead Systems Engineering activities across requirements, design, integration, verification, validation and sustainment.
n
Provide technical leadership and specialist engineering advice across complex systems and projects.
n
Support the design, development, testing and implementation of robust telecommunications and communications systems.
n
Develop and review technical specifications, system requirements, engineering reports and design documentation.
n
Lead investigations into complex system issues and implement effective engineering solutions.
n
Prepare test plans and test cases and participate in system integration and testing activities.
n
Manage configuration, change control and technology change processes.
n
Identify, manage and track technical and program risks.
n
Monitor system performance and drive improvements in reliability and maintainability.
n
Provide guidance across system safety, security and technical integrity.
n
Collaborate with engineering, architecture, security and operational teams,



as well as external vendors and service providers.
n
Support knowledge sharing and mentor less experienced team members.
n

About You
n
To be successful, you'll bring:
n
n
A relevant degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or an equivalent qualification.
n
Strong demonstrated experience applying Systems Engineering principles throughout the system lifecycle.
n
Extensive experience in the design, development, testing and implementation of telecommunications systems.
n
Strong knowledge of quality assurance and configuration management practices.
n
Proven experience managing technical stakeholders and vendors.
n
Excellent technical documentation skills, including experience preparing and reviewing solution architecture and system design documentation.
n
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate and resolve complex technical issues.
n
The ability to work autonomously, take ownership and provide technical leadership.
n
Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer, such as RPEQ.
n
The ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government NV1 security clearance.
n
n
Highly Desirable
n
Experience or knowledge in the following areas will be highly regarded:

N-tier architectures and distributed systems

Real-time systems
n
Internet technologies
n
Information Security Manual (ISM) principles and controls
n
DO-278A software assurance guidelines
n
n
