About the opportunity adaptbl is recruiting Associate (APS6) and Senior Associate (EL1) level information law professionals for one of our Commonwealth Government clients.
The roles provide advice and support across a range of information law matters, with opportunities to work within one of four specialist streams: Privacy, Secrecy, Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Freedom of Information (FOI).
These are initial 6-month labour hire engagements, with possible extension up to 12 months.
Full-time and availability to commence as soon as possible is preferred.
The roles are open to candidates across Australia, including those seeking hybrid working arrangements.
Please note: only Australian citizens with the ability to obtain a Baseline security clearance can be considered for this role.
However, an existing clearance is highly desirable.
Privacy - Senior Associate (EL1) Key responsibilities Lead Privacy Impact Assessments and Privacy Threshold Assessments, and advise on projects, programs, systems and business processes.
Identify privacy risks, recommend practical mitigation strategies and support privacy incidents, governance and compliance activities.
Requisite skills/experience Demonstrated PIA/PTA experience and strong knowledge of the Privacy Act, Australian Privacy Principles and Commonwealth privacy obligations.
Strong written skills and the ability to assess and manage privacy risks in complex environments.
Secrecy - Senior Associate (EL1) Key responsibilities Advise on Commonwealth secrecy provisions, disclosure, data requests and information-sharing issues relevant to departmental programs.
Prepare practical advice on public interest certificates or disclosures and contribute to education materials that strengthen secrecy awareness.
Requisite skills/experience Experience applying secrecy, information governance or related regulatory frameworks, supported by strong statutory interpretation and legal research skills.
Ability to translate complex legislation into operational guidance and engage effectively with program areas, legal teams and senior executives.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) - Senior Associate (EL1) Key responsibilities Assess proposed AI use cases and deployments from legal, ethical, privacy, information management and governance perspectives.
Provide responsible AI, risk and compliance advice and support assurance, monitoring and reporting activities.
Requisite skills/experience Experience in AI, emerging technology, digital regulation or information governance, with an understanding of responsible AI and risk frameworks.
Ability to analyse complex technology proposals and work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Freedom of Information – Associate (APS6) / Senior Associate (EL1) Key responsibilities Manage end-to-end FOI requests, including document retrieval and assessment, consultations, exemptions, public interest tests and decision preparation.
Engage with applicants and business areas, manage statutory deadlines and support reviews, complaints and related information-access matters.
Requisite skills/experience Demonstrated FOI processing experience and sound knowledge of the FOI Act and administrative decision-making principles.
Robust written communication, attention to detail and the ability to work independently across competing priorities.
