Guthrie House is seeking Casual Recovery Support Workers to support women and children living in our residential alcohol and other drug recovery service.

This is a practical, relationship-based role. You will spend your shifts building respectful relationships, supporting daily routines and recovery activities, and helping maintain a safe and welcoming home environment.
n
Shifts are primarily evenings and weekends, with some public holiday work. Availability during these times is essential.
n
You will work independently during rostered shifts, with support from an experienced multidisciplinary team, established procedures and on-call arrangements.
n

ABOUT GUTHRIE HOUSE

Guthrie House is a specialist residential AOD recovery service for women, including women who are pregnant or accompanied by their children.
n
Located on Gadigal Land in Enmore, we support women whose lives may also be affected by trauma, mental health challenges, homelessness and contact with the criminal legal system.
n
Our work is grounded in respect, compassion, cultural safety and recognition of each woman's strengths and individual circumstances.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
n
n
Build respectful and trusting relationships with residents.
n
Support daily routines, shared living and practical tasks.
n
Encourage participation in recovery activities and appointments.
n
Help women build life skills, confidence and independence.
n
Support pregnant women, mothers and accompanying children.
n




Provide short-term supervision of children when required.
n
Facilitate informal activities that promote connection and wellbeing.
n
Respond to distress using established plans and procedures.
n
Complete case notes, incident documentation and shift handovers.
n
Work collaboratively with the case management and clinical team.
n

ABOUT YOU
n
n
You will be reliable, approachable and able to support women without judgement while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
n
We welcome applicants with:
n
Experience working in alcohol and other drugs, residential support, mental health, homelessness or community services; and/or
n
A relevant qualification in alcohol and other drugs, community services, social work, mental health or a related field; or
n
Current studies in a relevant field, with at least one completed placement.
n
You will also need:
n
An understanding of trauma-informed and recovery-oriented practice.
n
A commitment to culturally safe practice and an understanding of the impacts of colonisation and intergenerational trauma.
n
Good communication and documentation skills.
n
The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
n
Availability for evening and weekend shifts.
n
A current NSW Driver Licence.
n
A First Aid Certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
n
