We are pleased to advise that we seek a Head of Water. Based in Southbank and reporting to General Manager - Asset Planning and Support.
n
The purpose of this position:
n
The Head of Water provides enterprise-wide leadership, governance, and technical assurance for surface water and groundwater management across MMG's global asset portfolio. The role owns group water strategy, standards, assurance, and stewardship maturity; assures the material water risk profile; supports life-of-mine planning and water security; and enables asset teams to meet operational, regulatory, sustainability, and ESG commitments.

Responsibilities:
n
n
Set enterprise-wide technical governance for hydrogeology, hydrology, water modelling, infrastructure design, and water-related studies across MMG's asset portfolio.
n
Assure catchment-wide water balance and water quality models to support operational resilience, regulatory compliance, and life-of-mine planning.
n
Provide expert technical input, risk assessment, and opportunity analysis for water-related matters in capital projects, studies, and mergers and acquisitions.
n
Advise the Competent Person on water-related modifying factors that may be material to Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves reporting.
n
Guide and assure mine water risk mitigation, predictive modelling, and alignment with SHEC, regulatory, sustainability, and climate risk requirements.
n
Verify that each operating site maintains current,
risk-based Surface and Groundwater Management Systems aligned to current operations and future life-of-mine requirements.
n
Own the Global Water Management Standard and lead MMG's Water Community of Practice to build capability, improve stewardship maturity, and scale effective practices across sites.
n
Govern the accuracy, quality, and consistency of water-related disclosures and external reporting against relevant regulatory, sustainability, and industry frameworks.

Skills
n
n
Enterprise leadership in mine water strategy, governance, technical assurance, and risk-based decision-making across complex operating assets and projects.
n
Advanced technical capability across hydrogeology, hydrology, water balance, water quality, mine dewatering, water supply, flood risk, and closure planning.
n
Strong judgement in converting complex technical, environmental, financial, social, and regulatory information into practical, value-focused recommendations.
n
Ability to influence senior leaders, site teams, technical specialists, regulators, auditors, industry bodies, and external stakeholders, supported by clear executive communication.
n
n
Knowledge
n
n
Strong knowledge of mining operations across studies, planning, operations, closure, and post-closure, including interfaces with mining, processing, tailings, waste rock, infrastructure, environment, and communities.
n
Deep understanding of surface water, groundwater, water quality, mine waste geochemistry, water stewardship, water security, climate change risk, and catchment-scale water management.
n
Working knowledge of industry-standard modelling methodologies and tools for water balance, groundwater, surface water, flood risk, and water quality assessment.
n
Strong understanding of mine water risk management, technical assurance, governance systems, standards, materiality, and relevant sustainability, disclosure, and industry frameworks.

Experience
n
n
Minimum 12 years' progressive experience in mining, resources, or heavy industry, with substantial exposure to mine water management, technical assurance, and multi-site governance.
n
Demonstrated experience advising senior leaders on material water risks, operational resilience, life-of-mine planning, projects, studies, closure, and external disclosure requirements.
n
Experience working across multiple jurisdictions, operating contexts, and stakeholder environments, including regulators, auditors, communities, industry bodies, and internal technical functions.
n

Education, Qualifications, Tickets, Licences
n
n
Bachelor's degree in engineering, hydrogeology, hydrology, environmental science, geoscience, or a related technical discipline from a recognised institution.
n
Postgraduate qualification in hydrogeology, hydrology, water resources, environmental engineering, or a related discipline is highly desirable.
n
Qualified registration or membership with a recognised technical body, such as AusIMM, Engineers Australia, RPEQ, SAIMM, CEng, or equivalent, is desirable.
