Job Description
WE FIT UP THE BIG RIGS! From design and fabrication through to fitting out all the cool gear on Prime Movers — that's what we do. Headboard frames, super duty guard sets, toolboxes, oil tanks... you name it, we build it. At K-Drive, we bring our customers' visions to life by delivering high-quality, custom-built Prime Movers. We work with all the major brands including Kenworth, Mack, Volvo, Scania and MAN, providing ready-for-work solutions for fleet and individual clients alike.

At our Forestdale workshop, we deliver high-quality truck builds and modifications that keep Australia's transport industry moving. We currently have an opportunity to take on a Vehicle Body Builder – Team Lead (Leading Hand) into our ranks to help shape a high performing workshop
n
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who takes pride in quality workmanship, enjoys mentoring others and can help drive productivity, safety and quality standards across the workshop.
n
You'll remain on the tools while providing guidance, support and direction to fellow tradespeople and workshop staff, helping ensure builds are completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standard.

Core Responsibilities:
n
n
Assemble, fit and install truck accessories including bullbars, toolboxes, air-conditioning units and associated components.
n
Lead by example and support workshop staff to achieve daily production targets.
n
Read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and build instructions.
n
Perform welding, fabrication,
cutting and modification work on prime movers.
n
Conduct quality inspections and ensure all work meets company standards.
n
Troubleshoot fitment and fabrication issues and implement practical solutions.
n
Promote and maintain safe work practices within the workshop.
n
Support workshop efficiency through effective communication and teamwork.
n
n
Mandatory Technical Skills:
n
n
Proven experience in truck body building, fabrication, welding or heavy vehicle modification.
n
Strong MIG welding and fabrication capability.
n
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and workshop plans.
n
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and lead by example.
n
Current Driver's Licence and reliable transport.
n
Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
n
Ability to work workshop hours between 7:00am/7:30am and 4:00pm/4:30pm.
n
Physically capable of performing manual workshop duties.
n
n
Preferred Experience:
n
n
Trade qualification in Fabrication, Boilermaking, Body Building or similar.
n
Experience working with prime movers and heavy vehicles.
n
Experience fitting truck accessories and aftermarket equipment.
n
Exposure to hydraulic, pneumatic or automotive electrical systems.
n
Previous experience mentoring apprentices or guiding workshop teams.
n
Experience working in a quick-paced manufacturing or workshop environment.
n
