Job Description
The Benefits
n
n
Genuine flexibility around how and where you work, including full-time and part-time options;
n
Hybrid or predominantly remote working arrangements;
n
Sophisticated commercial work without the hierarchy and structure of a larger firm;
n
Direct relationships with an established portfolio of high-quality clients;
n
The opportunity to work as an extension of clients' businesses, rather than simply providing legal advice from the sidelines;
n
A collaborative team of experienced lawyers and consultants;
n
An incentive program providing additional earning potential; and
n
Scope to develop your own client relationships and practice, if that is of interest to you.
n
n
The Firm
n
Our client is a boutique commercial practice with an established and sophisticated client base spanning FMCG, agriculture, research and development, manufacturing, technology and creative industries.
n
The firm takes a different approach to traditional private practice. For many clients, the team operates as an outsourced or supplementary in-house legal function, becoming closely embedded in the business and providing practical advice across day-to-day legal, commercial and strategic matters.
n
With a strong existing client base and continued growth, the firm is now looking to add another senior commercial lawyer to the team.
n
The Role
n
Working directly with the firm's partners and clients, you will manage a broad range of commercial matters with a high degree of autonomy. This opportunity could particularly appeal to an experienced Senior Associate or Special Counsel looking for greater autonomy and flexibility, an in-house lawyer considering a return to private practice in a different model,
or a senior lawyer wanting to reduce their hours without compromising on the quality of their work.
n
n
Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts;
n
Providing practical advice on contractual, commercial and operational issues;
n
Advising on consumer law, marketing and advertising matters;
n
Preparing consultancy agreements, deeds of release and other commercial documentation;
n
Advising on governance, directors' duties and broader corporate issues;
n
Supporting clients with commercial disputes, contract interpretation and risk management;
n
Advising on intellectual property matters, particularly research and development arrangements and licensing;
n
Supporting clients on privacy and regulatory compliance matters; and
n
Developing templates, precedents and practical tools to support clients' operations.
n
n
About You
n
You will have at least 8+ years' PAE and be capable of independently managing sophisticated commercial matters and client relationships.
n
You will ideally have:
n
n
Strong commercial contracting, drafting and negotiation experience;
n
Excellent technical skills and attention to detail;
n
The ability to provide pragmatic, commercially focused advice;
n
Confidence dealing directly with senior stakeholders and clients; and
n
Solid judgement and an ability to identify and manage commercial risk.
n
n
Experience within FMCG, food and beverage, agriculture or ag-tech would be particularly well regarded.
n
Previous in-house experience would also be highly regarded given the firm's embedded advisory model, although it is not essential.
n
There is no requirement to bring a client base. However, for someone with existing client relationships who would like to continue developing their own practice, the firm is open to discussing a broader remuneration structure.
